The Lehigh University Phobia Program has been awarded a five-year, half-million dollar grant by the National Institute of Mental Health to continue its work on agoraphobia, the severe fear of public places. See Story on Page %J $5-Million Raised For Scholarships By William Johnson Lehigh University Writers' Group Lehigh raised $4.9 million for scholarships in 1987-88, and in the last two years gifts to the university designated for financial aid have increased 80 percent over the previous two-year period. Michael G. Bolton, vice president for development and university relations, said the dramatic increase in financial- aid fund-raising is a response to the times. "'Families are having to find new ways to finance a college education, and we're committed to helping them," Bolton said. In announcing results of Lehigh's 1987-88 fund-raising efforts. Bolton said the university last year passed the $25- million mark in gifts from private sources for the first time in the school's history, advancing major campus capital projects, financial-aid goals and university operations. Lehigh's chief development official emphasized the university's commitment to making a Lehigh education affordable to all qualified students. "People see Lehigh's new Mountaintop Campus, Murray Goodman Stadium and our plans for the Rauch Business Center and it looks like Lehigh is doing very Continued On Page 4> Welcome, Freshmen Parents! Lehigh University will host the parents of its freshmen students on Saturday and Sunday, October 22 and 23. for a weekend of special cultural, educational, and athletic events. The weekend's activities will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday with a discussion in Whitaker Laboratory Auditorium on student life at Lehigh led by members of the dean of students office. At 10:15 a.m. each undergraduate college will hold a convocation to explain curriculum requirements. University services, and educational opportunities. The College of Arts and Science will meet in the Kravis Auditorium of Neville Hall and the College of Business and Economics will hold their session in the auditorium of the Sherman Fairchild Center for the Physical Sciences. The College of Engineering and Applied Science will meet in Packard Laboratory Auditorium.
