Alden Moe Dr. Alden J. Moe has been named dean of the College of Education at Lehigh University, effective July 1. He is currently associate dean for academic affairs at Louisiana State University's College of Education. His appointment was announced by Dr. David A. Sanchez, Lehigh's provost and academic vice president, who added that Dr. Moe will hold the faculty rank of professor of leadership, instruction and technology. He replaces Dr. Paul VanR. Miller, who is retiring after 22 years of service to the University. "Dr. Moe was the unanimous choice of the search committee," said Dr. Sanchez. "He impressed the committee and the administration as a person of integrity and warm humanity who will be a strong advocate for the College on the campus and in Harrisburg and Washington. "AI also made a fine impression upon alumni and the Lehigh Valley School Study Council," the provost continued. "He is excited about Lehigh's endeavors at the Centennial School, our education model projects, and the future of the College. Dr. Moe joined Louisiana State in 1982 as professor and chairman of the department of curriculum and instruction. He also taught at Purdue University for 11 years, serving as associate professor and chairman of the department of elementary education. His teaching expertise was recognized with the 1973-74 Outstanding Teacher Award from Purdue. He began his career as a classroom teacher in the Minneapolis Public Schools. Dr. Moe's research specialties include elementary reading instruction, societal influences on literacy attainment, and computer-assisted analysis of natural language. He has a Ph.D. and a B.S. from the University of Minnesota, and an M.A. from Clarke College. "I am looking forward to joining Lehigh's College of Education and excited about moving to the Lehigh VaJley," said Dr. Moe. As dean of the College of Education, Dr. Moe will head Lehigh's youngest college. It offers advanced study at the master's and doctoral levels with 24 full- time faculty members and occasional adjuncts. There are currently more than 500 full and part-time graduate students enrolled in the College. Continued On Page 2 > Lehigh Matmen Win Easterns By DENNIS SCHOLL SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Lehigh University's wrestling team turned a season-long travesty into a weekend of triumph as the 84th annual Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association championships wound down last Saturday night at Syracuse University's Man ley Field House. The Brown and White finished a runaway winner in the team race, crowned three individual champions and qualified six wrestlers for the NCAA tournament in Ames, Iowa, March 17-19, the most they have ever sent to an NCAA tourney since seven made the trip in 1975. But that's not all. Of the 10 wrestlers who competed in the tournament, nine placed among the top six in their weight classes. And to add a bit of icing to the cake, Thad Turner was voted ETWA Coach of the Year and 190-pound freshman Matt Ruppel, the conference Freshman of the Year.
