about 100,000 words will fcv used to explain the pros and corts of a permanent program of wage and price controls friday and saturday when 200 debaters will come to lehigh for the fifth ann ual pennsylvania intercollegiate forensic tournament vice-president smiley will ad dress the debaters at the tourna ment banquet friday evening in the hotel bethlehem after din ner the debaters will attend the mustard and cheese production of yellow jack lehigh's representatives in the tournament will be elliott barneft 54 and mai gross 54 for the ne gative side and bill stafford 52 and paul handwerk 52 the affir ative team william coles 53 will take part in the oratory contest each school is to he repre sented by one affirmative and one negative team there will be four preliminary rounds of debate fof j all colleges followed by semi finals if necessary and finals winners will receive the talcr debate trophy awarded by the as sociation this cup won h j swarthmoro college in 1948 the ! university of pittsburgh in 1949 allegheny college in 1950 and pcnn state men in 1951 will be rotated from year to y ar with peimanent possession granted tc the first college to win it three times awards in the oratory contests will be first place gold key sec ond place silver key third place bronze key the winner in each division will be eligible to rep resent pennsylvania in the inter state oratorical contest orations must be original and each college is entitled to one entrant in the men's division and ono in the women's division each college is also allowed one contestant in the men's di vision and women's division of the extemporaneous speaking contest awards here will also c gold silver and bronze keys fop first second and third place re spectively preliminary contests in both the oratory and extempoie spoakincj competitions will be held at b p.m thursday finals in the oratorical contests and extempore speaking competi tions will be held friday satus see debaters page 7 see conference page 7 two of america's foremost protestant leaders will be at le high for the conference on reli gion which opens here early next month the men dr samuel m shoemaker and dr david b na pier will participate in that por tion of the conference sponsored by the christian council the pro testant group dr shoemaker will officially open the protestant section of the conference with a sermon in pack er memorial church on sunday morning march 9 he will also participate in a panel discussion in the evening and will give an other talk in packard auditorium on tuesday evening at 7:30 on the subject what are you going to do with your life dr shoemaker is rector of the calvary church in pittsburgh and the president of the standing committee of the episcopal church of the diocese of new no rich foods be prompt red cross urges donors see blood page 7 promptness in keeping red cross blood program appoint ments thursday and friday of this week is urged for the 660 campus pledges by miss g elizabeth wharen executive secretary of the bethlehem chapter of the american red cross bocause of the large number of donors who responded to the pledge drive at lehigh during january dean congdon chair man of the bethlehem red cross progiam for defense was able to arrange two dates feb 28 and 29 for lehigh donations bloodmobile units with complete staffs will be many were the worried faces thursday as arcadia ballots were counted including art golden berg's briefly not the one above ' however this cat swallowed cream countenance signified election apply odk arcadia office students in their fifth sixth | or seventh semester who wish to ba considered for election to membership in the lehigh xi !
