debate society secretary was elected second vice president of next year's con tention stafford succeeds another lehigh man lawrence collins a & e 52 who held the position for this session of the convention lehigh was the only school at the convention to elect officers for both this session and the next one lehigh debaters also were among floor leaders in both the general assembly meeting and 7:30 p.m dramatizing the murder of thimos becket of canterbury the play was written by eliot for the canterbury cathedral festival of june 1935 at the suggestion of e martin brown of london eliot revised the script for the legitimate stage with the famous english actor robert speight in the role of thomas it was pro duced ai the mercury theater the producer then moved it to the larger duchess theater where it ran for almost a year c murder in the cathedral was first produced profesionally in america by the federal theater project from there is was given at the ritz theater and produced by gilbert miller hobart college was the scene of ihe play's first performance in a church in america this took place in 1940 written in blank verse the play stands out as one of the greatest religious dramas of the gentury it is a poetical drama in which eliot presents the signi ficance of beckei's martyrdom it disregards the superficialities of the murder and emphasizes the basic character of the man shown in rehearsal for the music festival are four lehigh men and a group of the opposite sex from beaver college the rehearsal took place saturday in grace hall in preparation for the festival to were disqualified for failure to pass their medical there were also two cancellations — the low est ever received originally listed were 129 stu denis 18 moravian students two wives 33 faculty 13 staff eight graduate students and 11 town people after one day of ticket sale the 1.80 tickets for seats on the floor of grace hall were sold out for the saturday april 14 perform ance of the 1951 lehigh music festival ticket sales started thurs day and are now on sale in drown hall from 1 to 4 p.m mon day through friday both reserved and unreserved seals are still available for both performances according to louis neuweiler sales manages re served seats cost 1.80 and 1.60 and unreserved 1.30 rehearsals for the fourth annual production have been in progress for several weeks the beaver college glee club visited lehigh on sat urday for a combined glee club rehearsal in grace hall and the lehigh group will travel to jenkintown pa to morrow for the third rehearsal with beaver rehearsals for down in the valley have also started a group of dancers from cedar crest college and lehigh rehears ed today and the solo leads for the broadway production by kurt weil went through their parts yesterday mountain peaks will form the backdrop for the stage with the audience and the musical groups down in the valley koroseal a transpar ent plastic material will be used to cover the peaks with variable lighting installed be hind the backdrop lehigh victorious the second part of the musical program will feature lehigh songs and will in clude the glee club cliff clefs and eleven members of he 1950 football squad the undefeated gridiron season is the theme of this section and the songs of le high have been woven into a new form for the festival debaters get posts at annual
