schlegel shows orrery to group joint meeting hears talk on motion of planets ralph schlegel an employee of the bell telephone company ad dressed the astronomical societies of the moravian college for wom en the moravian college for men and the e w brown astronomical society of lehigh at a joint meet ing tuesday evening the lehigh society members were the guests of the moravian women's society mr schlegel gave a short re sume oi the history of astronomy and then described an orrery an instrument to show the relative motions of the naked eye planets which he had constructed the speaker used the instrument to il lustrate the retrograde action of mars the short motion from west to east occasioned by the relative motions of the earth and that plan et the members of the moravian college for women's society accep ted an invitation to inspect sayre observatory wednesday april 6 which is the first of the open nights sponsored by the e w brown soc iety to be held this spring the observatory will be open every clear wednesday evening until may 18 according to norman r bell e e 39 president of the society dr neil carothers dean of the college of business administra tion was recently appointed a member of the bethlehem safety commission by mayor robert pfeifle carothers appointed purdue lecturer speaks of success factors in later life dr lillian gilbreth guest of the mechanical and industrial en gineering society spoke on new opportunities in management at a meeting of the society on thurs day evening in packard auditor ium she was introduced by prof fred v larkin head of blonde who can be pinned down to no definite state ments freshman cup winning reporter charles kalmbach walked off with another prize when he took marie gushen home no summer journ alism for her she can't stand sum mer in bethlehem but it's differ ent in winter with a lot of people around tony carcione left the blonde marjorie wright alone for a mom ent asked for her prime reason of existence she finally admitted tennis i'm nuts about tennis all right miss wright local op inion carl konolige says you're pretty good diehl wrote editorials attractive enough to be con vincing lois diehl typing an ed itorial was asked if some of the girls didn't come over here with the hope of making these casual relationships more than just a one night stand don't be silly said she or the equivalent and just during which the emphasis was placed on instru mental advancement professor christiansen came to oberlin conservatory of music in 1929 as a teacher of choral sing ing choral conducting and mad rigal singing he has literally grown up in the traditions of his profession a son of dr f melius christiansen of the famous st olaf's choir olaf himself began to conduct church choirs at the age of 16 he soon be forgotten christiansen directs choir according to prof olaf c christ iansen director of the choir choral music for the past half century has been enjoying a renaissance after two centuries during which the emphasis was placed on instru mental advancement professor christiansen came to oberlin conservatory of music in 1929 as a teacher of choral sing ing choral conducting and mad rigal singing he has literally grown up in the traditions of his profession a son of dr f melius christiansen of the famous st olaf's choir olaf himself began to conduct church choirs at the age of 16 he graduated from st olaf's college in 1925 after four years in the st olaf's choir under his father's direction with additional study and research in church music in new york city he began to teach in oberlin oberlin choir to give recital here april 8 vol xlv — no 40 the oberlin a cappella choir composed of forty-five men and women of oberlin col lege and conservatory with a program covering four
