under the joint aus pices of lehigh university the franklin institute of the state of pennsylvania the american society of mechanical engineers and the newcomen society of england the three-day celebration jan 9-21 will include an international radio pro gram dinners speeches and ex hibitions of models of watt and newcomen engines englishman to speak the celebration will be officially opened at the franklin institute philadelphia sunday jan 19 when at 12:30 p m through on interna tional broadcast a spokesman for the science museum south ken sington london will greet the par ticipating societies in the american celebration the english observance will be held wednesday jan 22 following the 15-minute interna tional broadcast there will be a dis play of watt and newcomen en gines and other exhibits appropriate to the occasion on monday the program will be shifted to lehigh where at 11 a m in packard auditorium r l sack ett dean of the school of engineer ing at perm state will preside over a discussion on the college grad uate in industdy after dining at the sun inn the group will again convene in pack ard laboratory where arthur m greene jr dean of the school of engineering at princeton university will preside over a colloquium on james watt following this j r connelly assistant professor of me chanical engineering will demon strate working models of newcom en and watt engines the high light of this exhibition states fred v larkin chairman of the commit tee in charge of the celebration will be a scale working model of the watt engines produced about 1790 we believe it to be the only exist ing model of a watt engine capable of running under its own power student guides desired larkin further stated we will be able to use a number of students to act as guides for the affair if those interested will report to pro fessor connelly they will be given short shifts that will not interfere with their exams concluding next monday's pro gram will be a
