the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 113 no 20 friday november 18 2005 all the lehigh news first bus failure leaves fans in the cold by lauren rieders assistant news editor transportation services failed to schedule buses to bring stu dents from campus to stabler arena for the guster concert monday night leaving more than 100 students to find alternate transportation or lose money from the nonrefundable tickets manager of transportation and parking services sharon field said she was responsible for the lack of transportation provid ed for students from bus stops on campus to stabler arena it was a huge mistake which i made field said i missed the request for the buses ashley weiss 09 said she intended to take a bus to the con cert but was forced to find trans portation elsewhere i was standing outside for a half hour waiting for the bus to come weiss said matt cowperthwait 09 said he arrived at the bus stop by maginnes hall at 7 p.m and wait ed for the bus to come with near ly 50 other students cowperthwait said by 8:30 p.m many students began to leave the bus stop and by 9 p.m everyone had left when he heard that the concert was being delayed people headed back to the bus stop but a bus still hadn't come cowperthwait said that he and a lot of other students did not go to the concert at all because of the transportation problem field said she was informed that students were waiting at the bus stop for the buses when a bus b&w photo by john conner tyan miller and the rest of the guster band decided to play at 9:30 p.m in an effort to help the students make the concert on time even though many were unable to attend the event employee's porn sex charges surface by jackeline leon news writer lehigh senior analyst john p early was suspended from his job after university sgt chris houtz and trooper paul lannace found several porno graphic pictures of children in his work computer on aug 31 police said university police investi gated early after he was arrested for allegedly molest ing a young boy at a social gathering on aug 6 according to the morning call early was charged with indecent assault and corrup tion of a minor and was released on 30,000 unse cured bail houtz was sent to interview early to determine the identi ties of the children in the pornographic photos found on his computer but early respectfully declined according to his attorney george heitczman early was arraigned before district judge nancy matos gonzalez of bethlehem for using a univer sity computer to view child pornography and was released on 100,000 unse cured bail greg reihman director of faculty development in tech nology services said it is unfortunate that this incident reflects on lehigh i never met him and i only heard about this from someone else reihman said and whoever knows about it thinks it's just unexpected and disappointing that this hap pened because it makes lehigh look bad chiaki okuyama 08 said she was concerned about the incident i had no idea that this happened she said isn't anti-hate vigil promotes respect by sharing light unity song by devon giddon news writer residential life coordinator john mcknight accompanied by guitarist christina diggs 07 led the crowd in a song tided we shall overcome during the stop the hate vigil in packer memorial church on wednesday students and faculty held candles at the vigil to promote acceptance and respect on campus the vigil was planned in response to the recent bias-related incidents in dormitories the vigil was held to promote awareness of the incidents and acceptance and respect of students differences the vigil featured a number of speakers including calvin smiley 08 political chair of the black student union donald jackson of the humanities center courtney smith graduate student senate member and jenn terfinko member of the girl scouts great valley council after the vigil attendees gathered in the women's center for a reception and to discuss the vigil the bias-related incidents on campus and personal opinions and experiences b&w photo by daniel sommer students lit candles at the stop the hate vigil at the packer chapel on wednesday to show their acceptance of diversity community has mixed reaction to bethworks by carly schwartzwald news writer he stands in the window with a wide grin painted across his face his warm voice can be heard welcoming those who enter and thanking others for their patronage as they exit his smile widens when he notices a group of girls well it's so nice to see these familiar faces again he said is the back table still avail able billy one of the girls asks as a matter of fact just for you girls billy replied with a grin i will personally escort you to your seats ladies this year will mark billy's diner's fifth anniversary billy kounoupis local resident and restaurant owner has been liv ing in the lehigh valley area for close to 10 years and is a strong supporter of
