the brown and white lehigh 1 vol 109 no 45 "~ jody e hijazi btt - fairchild/hartindale lib ltg info management all the lehigh news first campus square vendors announced byjohnmisinco italian restaurant coffeehouse to join two-story bookstore in new development assistant news editor an italian restaurant and a coffeehouse will occupy the two remaining retail spaces in the new campus square complex the university announced wednesday pastaficio an italian restau rant on hamilton street in allentown will open its second restaurant in the back of the complex jazzman's a coffeehouse operated by the wood company will occupy the space in front of it the two venues will join the bethlehem dairy store which signed a lease last month in campus square the ice cream shop will be in the front corner of the complex along morton street all of the restaurants are on the ground level on the west side of campus square adjacent to the parking garage the new two-story barnes and noble bookstore will be on the other side of the complex bill johnson director of media relations said the busi nesses should be open by late summer they're all anxious to be open johnson said obviously the facility will be ready by then barry gaal associate vice president for business services was in charge of selecting which businesses would occupy the retail space a process that took more than a year to com plete gaal said the university con tacted several restaurant chains but most of them pre ferred to have locations in sub urban areas near shopping centers and malls the waters were tested there but it didn't work out he said president gregory farrington and bethlehem mayor don cunningham also announced at a press conference wednesday that the university will fund a new south side beautification project in the areas adjacent to campus square the plan could include improvements such as weed control flower planting tree maintenance and litter removal once something is beauti ful it is likely to stay that way farrington said even i human rights activist speaks byjaye kinnard news writer lawyer and human rights activist halima addou spoke monday as the final speaker in a series of lecturers celebrating 30 years of women at lehigh there is fear every day terror every minute - it's part of daily life addou said of her native homeland algeria addou was targeted by both islamic fundamentalist extremists and the repressive military gov ernment because she used her algerian television talk show to expose abuses of human and civil rights she focused especially on the condemnation of women i left my country because i didn't want to be a number addou said addou along with many of her friends fled the country to save her life because she was consid ered a political threat we get arrested we might get killed - but we'll get killed either way so we protest in the streets she said addou said civilians were slaughtered in gruesome ways extremists wear police cos tumes she said you don't know who is going to kill you - they kill everyone addou told the audience that it is not a war when babies are killed in microwaves and young girls are sold for sex slaves and then killed addou said she blames the murders on islamic fundamental ist extremists who brainwash the young people for terrorism she suggested that there is no actual political party but that the country is moving backward centuries to illustrate this she described a thief having his hands cut off the terrorists focus on behav ior -
