the brown and white vol 108 no 25 all the lehigh news first co-ed freshmen hall moves to lower cents by gina montana news writer residence life is relocating mcclintic marshall house's third-floor co-ed halls to the centennial ii houses next semester thomas dubreuil associate dean of residence life said the change is a result of difficulties surrounding an unsuitable living arrangement on m&m's third floor including excessive property damage alcoholic offenses and unsuitable commu nity living during the past year the move will create smaller more manageable co-ed halls in lower cents to create better living situations there are two gryphons on each hall in m&m to manage 48 students a rela tively high ratio of students to gryphons for the floor joseph magnotta 01 a gryphon on the floor said decreasing the number of students on the co-ed hall may eliminate some of the poor behavior and living conditions found on the floor with only twenty-five students on each hall in lower cents it will be easier to manage and control the floor he said dubreuil said it is difficult to build a comfortable suitable living community with such a large number of students living on the hall in addition to the con stant influx of visiting students from the other floors and dormitories it appears to be the social floor even if students do not live there that's where most of them go to hang out dubreuil said as a gryphon magnotta has first hand experience with this the main problem is that the third floor is the only floor that is co-ed therefore everyone wants to be there magnotta said so basically take all of the 300 students living in m&m and put them together on our floor things are bound to happen students should be able to live study and sleep comfortably in their own rooms dubreuil said unfortunately in several instances that is not a reality for some third-floor residents we are not taking away the co-ed living option for students but we feel the smaller floors in lower cents will allow us to form a more comfortable appropriate living community for all students dubreuil said dubreuil has worked with barbara hawkins assistant director of residence life throughout the year to analyze m&m's situation and to devise the best way to improve the co-ed hall community we are not punishing students for any thing we are trying to better their living b&wphoto
