student debit cards are frozen and accounts may have been illegally accessed last thursday bethlehem police con firmed a skimmer which is a removable device that scans and stores card informa tion had been attached to the bank of america atm on east third street video surveillance was also used to film atm users personal information as it was entered into the machine a total of 286 accounts have already been compromised and over 43,000 lost investigator rob toronzi said according to an article on lehighval leylive.com 43,625 was stolen from 34 accounts as a result of the skimmer on east third street and another on ca tasaqua road the thieves are believed to be arme nian or of some other european origin and driving a dark-colored mercedes e55 sedan according to the same article the bank of america employees realized something was wrong after they started receiving numerous calls about unusual card activity and problems upon investigation they discovered a skimmer on the atm on site clubs unite to expose worldwide health issues by amy mcdonald global health week ended today after a week of events intended to give students a worldwide perspective of health epidemics the organizers of the event which was the first of its kind at lehigh said they hope it becomes an annual event we wanted to create an annual week of events that would promote awareness on pressing global health issues since lehigh hasn't had many programs on international health in the past said caroline kusi 11 president of the public health coalition originally the week's focus was going to be on women's health in rec ognition of national women's health week kusi said instead the program expanded to include a series of events that explored global health issues from a public health perspective the week's events included film screenings about aids medical prob lems in niger and the global water crisis chad briggs assistant professor of international relations will give a lec ture today at noon in maginnes 101 about prioritizing gender for policy responses speakers from organizations and institutions outside of lehigh were also invited to contribute to global health week events expo educates visitors on green living by adrienne gerard heating cooling lighting and constructing buildings demands huge amounts of energy and resources with the green building expo being hosted by lehigh univer sity however the lehigh valley could get a lot greener the two-day event the lehigh valley green build ing expo at mountaintop campus lacocca hall was hosted by the lehigh valley green builders forum a non-profit educational organization dedicated to pro moting green building and renewable energy to the building and home industry and the public in the lehigh valley ranging from heating and cooling systems to edible landscapes and making your own rain barrel at home the expo included dozens of exhibits and demonstra tion seminars and allowed the community to learn more about green building practices and how they could contribute forty percent of all energy consumption is in build ings dork sahagian professor of environmental sci ences and director of lehigh's environmental initiative said so if you want to save some energy buildings are a great place we can get started the 30 talks and six workshops about green building and living featured the latest green building products and services expertise on implementing green proj ects and how to green our community and even our homes the main goal of the weekend was to promote energy efficiency and green buildings throughout the lehigh valley and beyond said bill dougherty board director and project coordinator of the lehigh valley green builders forum we wanted to educate residen tial and commercial individuals of the current products that are out there exhibits demonstrations and presentations consisted of three tracks commercial residential and green living each focused of different topics per event for example one of the commercial presentations focused solely on lehigh university's new steps facil ity which is being built to high environmental standards some residential presentations focused on the use of solar tv panels and solar hot water the presentation on solar tv panels and solar hot water were very highly attended dougherty said a lot seemed to be very excited about this and all of these technologies that assist the home owner or commercial builder are readily available now most attendees were families from around the area and local businesses we had over 1,000
