lafayette had a good team ex plained austy but it was no better than ours when doering halsted and clark were injured we had no one to take their places lafayette had plenty of good strong reserves concluded bosey says season was good bosey reiter considered the season a success and thought that the coaches got the most possible out of the material considering the schedule played and the number the lehigh backs were so completely fagged out that they were unable to stop the maroon drive football is like warfare bosey went on you must have a strong first and second line defense and plenty of omega phi sigma and leonard hall the two leading living groups in scholastic rating during the past year gave the first indication of being in the battle for scholastic honors this semester when at york collegiate institute york mr gramley spoke twice in the afternoon he address ed the entire body consisting of 250 students and faculty advisers representing the school papers of york and adams counties on the lure of journalism later he spoke to a section on writing the news story the welcoming speech at the opening of the assembly was delivered by prof w r lecron m a of york collegiate institute the meeting was also addressed by dr h c mcknown of the department of education of the university of pittsburgh burr to appear soon the next issue of the lehigh burr will be published the first week in december according to p s davis editor in chief it is to be called the puritan number and will be in contrast to the recent house party number^in which mem bers of fraternities and the frater nities themselves were severely razzed the usual noise confusion and spirit marked the lafayette smoker and pep meeting friday evening in the lower gym the singing was enthusiastic the cheering lusty and some few hundred frenzied under graduates and alumni assured themselves that lehigh would re peat their last year's victory j d benedict president of ar cadia introduced the toastmaster for the evening prof j s long andrew buchanan secretary of the alumni association spoke on the inability of lafayette to beat le high if the spirit was kept up w r okeson treasurer of the university gave a short history of football captain mclernon told of the as surance of the team that they would beat lafayette he was followed by w l tubby miller captain of the victorious 29 team who em phasized the importance of cheer ing and the continuous support from the stands during the game tom keady who coached le high's football team when austy tate was in school told what the teams thought before going into a lafayette game when he coached brown and white austy tate fol lowed with a talk on the ability of the team and ended with a plea to the alumni for more football ma terial for lehigh austie was then presented with the new team mas cot a black and white calf a strong lafayette football team overcame defeat in the last six min utes of play saturday when it scored 16 points to wipe out the six point lead which lehigh held since the second period and won a bitterly fought contest in the lafay ette stadium at easton after losing the ball on downs to lehigh on the latter's one-yard line it appeared to the record crowd of 20,000 who filled the vast stadium that lafayette's last chance to score had ended and that a lehigh vic tory was assured not even after the next play when lehigh allowed the leopards an intentional safety did it seem possible that lafayette would score again the spectators and the brown and white eleven did not reckon however with one bob wilcox a brilliant halfback all afternoon who on the first play following ware's kick after the safety took a is yard pass from thompson on lehigh's 35 yard line and ran the remaining distance to the goal line to put the leo pard's in front cook added the ex tra point wilcox scores again having missed three chances to score earlier in the game the leo pard's were not satisfied with this single touchdown and in but two more plays made another score haas fumbled cook's kick on the lehigh 35 yard line and the ball was recovered by reuter for la fayette wilcox again took matters in his own hands and on the next play sliced off right tackle reversed his field past the lehigh secondary defense and ran 40 yards for an other touchodwn cook again kick ed the extra point with a place ment thus in five plays lafayette snatched the game away from the brown and white warriors and the stunned gallery had been trated to as spectacular a finish as this series of 64 games has ever pro duced lehigh threw numerous passes in the few remaining min utes in a desperate effort to score but the leopards were not going to relinquish their lead and they had possession of the ball as the game ended lehigh had gone into the lead in the second period when a la fayette fumble placed them in scor ing position wilcox fumbled a ware punt on the leopard's 28 yard line and issel pounced on it for lehigh al ware picked up 14 yards at right tackle and a penalty for unnecessary roughness against lafayette placed the ball on the one yard line from where al ware carried the ball over for the score cook broke through the lehigh line to block ware's try for the extra point halsted runs 20 yards throughout the first two periods of the game neither side was able to show much advantage with the ex ception of the lehigh score al though ware was having a slight advantage over woodfin in punting due to the wind at his back in the opening quarter in this quarter lehigh advanced into lafayette ter ritory when halsted ran 20 yards around left end to place the ball on the leopard's 38-yard line but the maroon line stiffened and after a pass went astray ware was forced to kick it was shortly after this thrust although in the next period that lehigh scored its touchdown lafayette went into lehigh terri tory for the first time in the sec ond period when ware's punt from the 18 yard line only carried as far as the 41 yard line but lafayette lost a chance to score when a for ward pass was grounded over the goal line in the second half the lafayette offense began to function and in the third period had possession of he ball the major part of the time ehigh did not gain a single yard n this period while lafayette made three first downs and barely missed a touchdown when sullivan caught a pass from woodfin just a few inches out of the end zone lehigh was continually on the defense dur ing this period and were kicking on second down in most cases again lafayette missed a scoring chance when bill mundy the leo pard quarterback fumbled a for ward pass while standing all alone over the goal line the maroon team had taken the ball to the le high 20 yard line when this play occurred and came back and drove from the brown and white's 35 yard line to the s yard line where the lehigh defense stiffened a 14 continued on pag four lehigh receives football mascot calf appears at lafayette game a strange and tragic story of in terfraternity intrigue and avarice centered about the innocent figure of lehigh's new mascot the brown and white calf which made its de but at the rally last friday night her second appearance and swan song under lehigh colors was at the game on saturday afternoon the sigma nu's owned her at first realizing lehigh's need for a mascot they had saved their pen nies for three years before clara bella's purchase no need to tell of the sacrifice that these unselfish men went through in order that the honor of old lehigh might be upheld at least that is what the sigma nu's thought at first but a brown and white reporter finally got the story out of them one man admitted with loyal tears in his eyes that for a whole semester he went to only five mo vies a week instead of his usual six other men gladly saved for the calf fund part of their earnings from crap games and football lot teries to a man they said i did it all for clarabella after the rally they gave an open party all the lights went out in the house for a little while and when they went on again the calf was gone and so were several delta tau delta men who had attended the party but clarabella got to the game the next day in the rumble seat of a delta tau delta road ster once inside the xafayette stadium she was wrathfully claim ed by several sigma nu's * she was given to the charge of frank murphy but he left her alone for a few minutes and she was stolen again this time by a beta and now the tragic part of the story comes in she was stolen again this time by some s p e.s who sold her to three swarthy individuals reports an eyewitness who as they rode away with clarabella on the back seat of their car seemed to be hungrily smacking their lips lehigh's mascot for a day it scored 16 points to wipe out the six point lead which lehigh held since the second period and won a bitterly fought contest in the lafay ette stadium at easton after losing the ball on downs to lehigh on the latter's one-yard line it appeared to the record crowd of 20,000 who filled the vast stadium that lafayette's last chance to score had ended and that a lehigh vic tory was assured not even after the next play when lehigh allowed the leopards an intentional safety did it seem possible that lafayette would score again the spectators and the brown and white eleven did not reckon however with one bob wilcox a brilliant halfback all afternoon who on the first play following ware's kick after the safety took a is yard pass from thompson on lehigh's 35 yard line and ran the remaining distance to the goal line to put the leo pard's in front cook added the ex tra point wilcox scores again having missed three chances to score earlier in the game the leo pard's were not satisfied with this single touchdown and in but two more plays made another score haas fumbled cook's kick on the lehigh 35 yard line and the ball was recovered by reuter for la fayette wilcox again took matters in his own hands and on the next play sliced off right tackle reversed his field past the lehigh secondary defense and ran 40 yards for an other touchodwn cook again kick ed the extra point with a place ment thus in five plays lafayette snatched the game away from the brown and white warriors and the stunned gallery had been trated to as spectacular a finish as this series of 64 games has ever pro duced lehigh threw numerous passes in the few remaining min utes in a desperate effort to score but the leopards were not going to relinquish their lead and they had possession of the ball as the game ended lehigh had gone into the lead in the second period when a la fayette fumble placed them in scor ing position wilcox fumbled a ware punt on the leopard's 28 yard line and issel pounced on it for lehigh al ware picked up 14 yards at right tackle and a penalty for unnecessary roughness against lafayette placed the ball on the one yard line from where al ware carried the ball over for the score cook broke through the lehigh line to block ware's try for the extra point halsted runs 20 yards throughout the first two periods of the game neither side was able to show much advantage with the ex ception of the lehigh score al though ware was having a slight advantage over woodfin in punting due to the wind at his back in the opening quarter in this quarter lehigh advanced into lafayette ter ritory when halsted ran 20 yards around left end to place the ball on the leopard's 38-yard line but the maroon line stiffened and after a pass went astray ware was forced to kick it was shortly after this thrust although in the next period that lehigh scored its touchdown lafayette went into lehigh terri tory for the first time in the sec ond period when ware's punt from the 18 yard line only carried as far as the 41 yard line but lafayette lost a chance to score when a for ward pass was grounded over the goal line in the second half the lafayette offense began to function and in the third period had possession of he ball the major part of the time ehigh did not gain a single yard n this period while lafayette made three first downs and barely missed a touchdown when sullivan caught a pass from woodfin just a few inches out of the end zone lehigh was continually on the defense dur ing this period and were kicking on second down in most cases again lafayette missed a scoring chance when bill mundy the leo pard quarterback fumbled a for ward pass while standing all alone over the goal line the maroon team had taken the ball to the le high 20 yard line when this play occurred and came back and drove from the brown and white's 35 yard line to the s yard line where the lehigh defense stiffened a 14 continued on pag four lehigh receives football mascot calf appears at lafayette game a strange and tragic story of in terfraternity intrigue and avarice centered about the innocent figure of lehigh's new mascot the brown and white calf which made its de but at the rally last friday night her second appearance and swan song under lehigh colors was at the game on saturday afternoon the sigma nu's owned her at first realizing lehigh's need for a mascot they had saved their pen nies for three years before clara bella's purchase no need to tell of the sacrifice that these unselfish men went through in order that the honor of old lehigh might be upheld at least that is what the sigma nu's thought at first but a brown and white reporter finally got the story out of them one man admitted with loyal tears in his eyes that for a whole semester he went to only five mo vies a week instead of his usual six other men gladly saved for the calf fund part of their earnings from crap games and football lot teries to a man they said i did it all for clarabella after the rally they gave an open party all the lights went out in the house for a little while and when they went on again the calf was gone and so were several delta tau delta men who had attended the party but clarabella got to the game the next day in the rumble seat of a delta tau delta road ster once inside the xafayette stadium she was wrathfully claim ed by several sigma nu's * she was given to the charge of frank murphy but he left her alone for a few minutes and she was stolen again this time by a beta and now the tragic part of the story comes in she was stolen again this time by some s p e.s who sold her to three swarthy individuals reports an eyewitness who as they rode away with clarabella on the back seat of their car seemed to be hungrily smacking their lips
