lehigh university brown and white vol 87 — no 30 bethlehem pa friday february 6 1976 mmmmmmmm 215-866-0331 five attackers identified charges to be brought by john copoulos five men who allegedly attacked and harassed a female university student have been identified said sharon drager assistant dean of students drager said she still has no information on the identity of a larauder who has terrorized some sidents of mcclintic-marshall house the five men include four university udents and one member of the local immunity drager said they are ac cused of participating m an incident that took place on dec 19 1975 behind dravo house three women students returning from a fraternity party were walking back lo their dormitories the men allegedly exposed themselves and pushed one of the women down two weeks ago drager said that as far as she knew the case concerning the at tackers was closed she would not confirm whether a recent brown and white story exposing the attack incident had caused her to reopen the case the brown and white forced some people to come out of the woodwork she said drager said residence halls learned of the attackers identity from a number of reliable sources including the girlfriend of one of the attackers eugene dax captain of university police would not comment on the investigation or the capture of the suspects the university will definitely take ac tion against the men according to robert reeves assistant dean of students drager would not specify charges to be brought , hut indicated that assault was probably involved the charges will vary with the suspects she added neither drager b&w photo by danoff lovely lehigh a letter of complaint regarding uncollected garbage m the university has been sent by the residence halls council to residence halls office dean of students and other administrative persons the letter complains that garbage has not been removed from rh-11 as well as from many houses m the centennial complexes the letter also complains of the slow removal of ice from university walkways as of feb 3 frank cancelliere project manager of allied maintenance corp said he was unaware of any garbage or ice problems two applicants in activities job found qualified by eileen canzian at least five of the seven members of a student advisory committee to aid m the selection of a student activities director m agreement on a candidate to fill that position and another committee member said he could have worked with any of the three final candidates for the job a majority of the committee also said that at least two of the three final can didates all of whom have been rejected by the administration were qualified for the job as the students saw it several members of the committee also pressed concern about the effect on the mustard and cheese members object to many drama policies members of mustard and cheese m&c the university drama club and drama majors object to dramatics division policies of hiring professional actors for student productions without consulting the club and using club funds to pay for those services pat goeller 76 a drama major said about casting professionals m student productions we can gain a lot from them but i think a student would also gain by playing a role this opinion was snared by other drama majors who also objected on the grounds that professionals make the student actors look less com petent the money used to hire professionals is another cause of controversy marcus dilliard 77 m&c treasurer said payment is to be a cooperative affair between the university administration and m&c however m&c will pay for the services of michael del medico a new york actor as macbeth m the spring production macbeth john durishin 76 m&c president opposes using m&c funds for this purpose if a professional actor is to be hired his pay should come out of academic funds he said also though the hiring of professionals is supposed to be approved by the executive board of m&c durishin said he was not contacted about the hiring of del medico marshall kaufman assistant professor of english also said he was not notified of the intention to hire del medico according to john pearson head of the division of speech and dramatics the purpose is to give students exposure to people who really know what they are doing the most effective way of studying drama is through an apprenticeship program m which the students work closely with the actors he said kaufman said we're trying to get as much involvement of students with professionals as possible the professionals should have qualities m which the faculty is not strong m order to help fill m the gaps m the department he said also i feel that they should be available to the students m a classroom john pearson business college faculty will add at least five by rob feldman rvercrowding m the business school will alleviated somewhat by the hiring of live and possibly seven new faculty ers brian brockway dean of the of business and economics said , tway said new faculty members een hired m finance law and lies and that he hopes to add two iccounting instructors m the near this should help m reducing the masses which now averages 40 to 45 s in undergraduate classes and 35 udents m graduate classes we'd et the average down to 25 students raduates and 35 for un gates brockway said year the college of business and nics came very close to exceeding ximum ratio for students to faculty rs set by the american assembly sge schools of business aacsb as m danger of losing its ac tion this year brockway said aye added enough new faculty rs to get out of the danger zone kway attributed much of the jwding to the increasing number of s who transfer into the business school from the arts college we don't mind it but it's a hard thing to plan for brockway said this year alone there have been 60 students who transferred into the business school m addition to the numerous arts students who take
