country according to john georgiadis chairman of the senior prom gillespie will bring a 16 piece band and two vocalists here his band has been known locally as the up and coming band matt gillespie started his profes sional career with paul specht played with irving aaronson's commanders later played with benny goodman and finally char lie banet at this point gillespie decided to organize his own band kaye will also feature tony alamo singer ernie cecil rudi sill the daffy drummer chubby silvers saxaphone lloyd roberts trombone the kayedets and the kaye choir along with laura leslie is don cornell a native of new york city he joined the kaye aggregation in minneapolis in jan 1942 he left the band and served in the army air corps he returned to the band in 1946 became his singer and for one hay hour anyone may lead the famous swing and sway band his show will be conducted as it has been in the past at every performance the maestro allows a group of four contestants to come up from the audience and wave the baton to make the music go for better or for worse the men in the orchestra play loudly or softly fast or slow depending on what the amateur does with the baton after the group of contestants has led the band through a series of involved noises sammy pre sents each with an autographed baton adding a substantial prize to the contestant judged best by the audience applause laura leslie femal vocalist with sammy kaye's orchestra was a stenographer in baltimore before joining the band as a high school student she accepted a job on a weekly sponsored program in bal timore from the maryland city she went to hollywood but was leading the field of entertainers will be june christie who origin ally sang with stan kenton and his orchestra and is one of the most popular singers in the country to day she will sing with matt gil lespie on the upper floor of grace hall from 9:30 p.m to 1:30 a.m june is rated number two in the campus survey conducted in may and metronome rated her num ber four in their female vocalist poll second on the list of top en tertainers will be sammy kaye the originator of so you want to lead a band kaye will play on the lower floor of grace hall from 10 p.m to 2 a.m kaye will come here with a troupe of 15 plus one vocalist this will be his first visit on a college campus in ten years his vocal subgroup the kayedets do rhythm will also be announced at the charity mueller joins trustee board dr theophil h mueller president of the julius kayser company has been named a cor porate trustee of lehigh university it was announced today by eugene g grace chairman of the board of bethlehem steel company and president of the university board of trustees dr mueller is a graduate of moravian college for men mora vian theological seminary and lehigh university he has served as alumni advisor of the lehigh chapter of phi gamma delta was elected an alumnus trustee of le high in 1946 he taught modern languages here for five years starting in 1912 he was given the honorary de gree of doctor of laws by moravian college for men in 1942 for twelve years he served as presi dent of the board of trustees of moravian seminary and college for women the oldest boarding school for girls in the united states before joining julius kay er he was on the staff of the bethlehem steel company and the laros silk company date set for proof returns approximately 700 out of the 750 members of the grad uating class of 1950 had their epitome pictures taken last week a representative for the photographers will be in the epitome room drown hall oct 18 and 19 to receive the proofs in the event that a senior can not bring the proofs in on either day he should mail them des ignating which picture he has selected for the epitome to ed
