the new mixed credit system m the college of arts and science which includes both three and four-credit courses is providing students and professors with dif ferent educational options students now have the option of taking four courses per semes ter each worth four credits or five courses per semester each worth three credits many professors m the college think that students who take four courses will have an enriched learning experience edward morgan a political see credits page 4 curriculum to account for the extra credit even if they are not adding a fourth hour of class time we've had discussion groups to talk about the non-traditional ways people can add to their courses i'm doing a lot of team and small group student pro jects morgan said in the past wright has added to his curriculum to satisfy the extra credit being earned i don't think there is one for mula that will make a three-cred it course or a four-credit course better he said i think you have to find what suits the course these are likely to produce a learning experience m which more lights go on more insights are gained and more intellectual growth occurs morgan wrote m his leuir professor ben wright of the religion department said there are good pedagogical reasons for switching to a mixed credit system instead of spending 20 percent of your time on the courses you're spending 25 percent of your time on parking services said parking will become more efficient once people become familiar with the new regulations right now because of all the changes it's hectic but once everyone has all their permits and new hang-tags i feel there is going to be much improvement m the parking potak said one of the major changes greatly affects the parking lots adjacent to residential halls the lots near rathbone dining hall and the sororities are now open only to those who are residents of upper centennial similarly residents of drinker house can not park m the taylor college parking lot students permit hang-tags now indicate where basement work concludes in uc they live allowing then to park only m a lot designated for their specific residence hall however students with lehigh parking permits may park m faculty lots after 4 p.m and on weekends potak said rules for parking on the hill are not the same in regards to fraternities and sororities on the hill the interfraternity council decided that they are allowing visitors to park m their lots but they must have 96^97 hangtags on their vehi cle potak said in addition parking services has hired two more personnel to ticket cars bringing the total to six each parking attendant concen trates on a specific area from 7:30 a.m to 11 p.m parking ser vices is responsible for ticketing the campus police tickets from 11 p.m to 7:30 a.m potak said munications department said the expansion to the department is the result of a 30,000 grant from general motors that was received about seven years ago the lab will house 15 com puters about half of which are computers that the department has already been using there also will be a new printer and another scanner for artwork the computers will be net worked to the existing walls have gone up m the basement of the university center and what was once the large open space where video games hid will now become a subterranean area for computers files and food preparation the journalism and communications department the dean of students office and dining services will share the reconstructed space m the base ment of uc that will provide each department with much needed space the space
