re-occupied chapter house on the campus are donald dennis e e oct 47 w j day bus june 45 and fred j attaway ch e oct 44 issue call for football soccer men meeting will be held thursday august 17th it is only august but the first meeting of all football and soccer candidates will be held on thurs day at 5 o'clock in the lower gym according to elbert caraway act ing director of intercollegiate ath letics the meeting will not signify the start of regular practice for either sport but will be primarily for the purpose of letting football coach leo prendergast and soccer mentor billy sheridan see just what material will be on hand when the season does start after the first of september six game schedule the football team will play a schedule of six games starting on october 21st with lafayette tra ditional rival on the taylor sta dium gridiron other games listed include rutgers at home on oct 28 carnegie tech at home on nov 4 west virginia on the southern er's home grounds on nov 11 a second tilt with lafayette to be played in easton on nov 18 and the closing game of the season on nov 25 away with rutgers the coaches of the football squad will be prendergast head coach and in charge of the line and eb caraway backfield coach robert w mayer ch e june 45 will be head manager this season the squad will be certain of only three men from last years varsity squad they are bob treser guard war ren fox tackle and pete kitson tackle continued on page 2 uso greets cadets rotc last saturday night august 12 a dance was held in honor of le high's newly arrived air corps reservists the affair sponsored by the local uso group took place in grace hall from 9 to 12 p m approximately 130 girls from bethlehem and other neighboring towns were present at the invita tion of the uso besides the hun dred reservists present about 40 rotc students attended music was supplied by vincent joseph's orchestra and refresh ments consisting of fruit punch cake and cookies were served along with the members of col onel easterday's staff and fheir wives the affair was under the di rection of several local ladies mrs h w enberg and mrs l c torell were in charge of the young ladies and helped chaperon the dance also serving on this com mittee were mrs earl crum mrs lee mcclellan mrs anthony lip sky and mrs louis kline in charge of refreshments were mrs s j phillips and mrs l c ziegler the affair one of the first at lehigh to include rotc students was judged a success by all pres ent and did much to make the re servists feel welcome besides the entertainment it afforded the dance helped many of the air corps boys to formally meet their fellow lehigh students delta tau delta re-occupies chapter house on campus early last week three brothers and four pledges from the delta tau delta fraternity moved back once more into their on-campus frater nity house this group like other on campus fraternities vacated their premises three semesters ago to provide living quarters for the astp unit which was stationed at lehigh at that time off-campus fraternities helped solve the acute housing problem thus created by inviting these less fortunate men to take up tempor ary residence in the fraternity houses in the city proper with the abandonment of the army specialized training pro gram last spring the army turned these living quarters back to the university which was assuming responsibility for the fraternity homes at that time the univer sity in turn turned the deeds back to the fraternities but be cause of the war most fraterni ties had suffered a great loss in new members as a result they were not financially able to re occupy their former homes at once but now with almost a half continued on page 4 drew baseball game precedes the dance in three days the long talked about and prepared for if ball will be on hand this will be the first big affair of the semester and accordingly the first lehigh ball that the class of feb 47 have had a chance to attend all over the campus town dorm and frater nity men alike have been planning for the evening a ball game with drew university is scheduled for saturday afternoon but the dance itself is the major attraction maestro harry romig and his band who play it sweet and play it hot will be on the platform to please anyone from a lover of the soft and slow to a hepcat of the first order lovely bea jerin will be on the vocals to please the gen tlemen not to mention the stag line if there be any such thing in a lehigh at war the young wo men's swooning association will be kept well filled by big rodger grube who sings what the girls like to hear the way they like to hear it harry his clarinet and his four teen piece ensemble have steadily been gaining popularity in the le high valley and have recently played successfully at dances for lafayette and muhlenberg at least 125 couples are expected to be gliding across the floor to his neat and danceable arrangements this saturday night from ten to one the tickets are 3.00 per cou ple tax included dorm and town men can secure theirs from bob mayer ch e june 45 and bill boothby i e june 46 while the fraternities have men handling their own distribution the air corps reservists are cordially in vited to attend the ball and may purchase their tickets for 1.80 tax included both students and trainees can get any number of tickets at either the supply bureau or the arcadia office in drown hall the living groups that filed their petitions with dean congdon on time may have dates stay in their houses from four o'clock saturday afternoon until four o'clock sun day afternoon dean congdon wishes it understood that satur day night is not house party night but merely an arrange ment made necessary by the lack of hotel marilyn weaver janine dandon auetta paul norma smith alice seeger doris delong dacia muryn and joanne schleir camera club to sponsor photo salon this month the camera club is planning to sponsor a photograph salon start ing august 23 and continuing through the week ending august 30 according to willard a mur ray m e june 45 those eligible for the salon will include for the most part mem bers of the club however all stu dents and all air corps reservists are encouraged to participate the camera club feels that since it is so easy to become a member of the club those who are intend ing to participate in the salon should see about joining as mem bers allen a dicke also an m e june 45 announced that there will be no prizes given out but the winning of first prize should be sufficient glory the pictures will be judged by members of the fac ulty and the best picture will be entered in a public contest held at a later date anyone desiring active extra-curricular activity is invited to join the camera club dormitories split monetary surplus the disclosure that seventy eight dollars is left from the treas ury of the last interdorm council was made by bob mayer ch e june 45 presiding over a meet ing of the council on thursday august 10 it was voted to distrib ute ten dollars of the money to each dormitory section the rest to be held in the treasury of the council it was also announced that per mission has been given by the dean for any dorm members bringing dates to the if ball to house them on the fourth floor of drinker house a a dicke from section 2b said that his section had reserved the faculty dining room of lam berton hall for dinner the eve ning of the if ball and any other sections desiring to eat there with 2b may do so it was reported that mr litz enberger has directed that a side walk be built between the delta tau delta fraternity house and the dormitory work will begin at the end of this month the council members asked that dorm inhabitants refrain from walking across that area until the walk is completed all-university to meet soon lehigh will have its first all university meeting of the semester in packard auditorium friday august 25 at 11 o'clock in all probability classes will be called off during this hour so that all civilian and army students can attend arcadia decided to petition the administration for permission to hold the function at its monthly meeting held last night president robert moore announced that the program for the meeting will be arranged by the committee on classes consisting of moore wil liam bloecher paul franz fritz yon bergen and david kirk the general purpose of the meeting will be the orientation of freshmen both army and civilian to lehigh and its traditions col onel george easterday command ant of lehigh's army unit and dean philip m palmer will prob ably be invited to address the meeting arcadia discussed the possibility of perpetuating such meetings in the form of regular weekly gath erings for both civilian and army students next semester an at tempt will be made to build up such a class schedule next sem ester that all students will have a common free hour in view of the great popularity of past all university meetings it was felt that the student body would willingly support such a program if ball expenses met by pre-sale of tickets at a meeting of the interfra ternity decided by the council that new officers will be re-elected at the regular meeting in septem ber any member of the council is eligible to hold office nomina tions are made from the floor all students wishing to attend the dance but who do not as yet have tickets may secure them from bob mayer in the dorm or from mrs bowker in drown hall tick ets will be sold at the door the night of the dance the
