the dog beowulf gained local prominence last week one of the campus cops found him lost on the grounds monday night and gave him to biggs when unable to find to whom it belonged beowulf moved into the dorm while his new master started a search for the owner a lost ad in the globe times brought quick results by coinci dence two representatives of the owner's family accosted biggs on the campus near the university li brary and asked directions to richards house the men spotted biggs dog shouted here buster and that was the end of beowulf mac has lost whatever title he had to buster but he has gained several new friends he also has a standing invitation to dinner whenever he wants to see the dog buster lives at buchanan and selfridge streets that the university is indebted to fraternities for solving some of its housing problems for the past 30 or more years was one conclu sion reached by john i kirkpat rick assistant to the president in a report to the faculty education club yesterday various aspects of student living conditions at lehigh were review ed in detail in the report the re port was based on an extensive survey conducted by kirkpatrick of all lehigh living groups in the period between the con struction of taylor hall and the richards and drinker house dor mitory systems no new construc tions or additions to provide more room for students on the campus were provided the work of fra ternities in absorbing the increased number of students during this period of university growth was commended by the president's aide he compared the lehigh living groups system with the systems employed by many of the nation's outstanding collegiate institutions and traced the history of student living conditions at lehigh the majority of off campus fra ternities would move on to the campus as soon as they have ne cessary funds according to kirk patrick's report this would entail approaching the university for mortgage funds which can be dance plans laid by pi tau sigma the sophomore engineering ap titude test will be given in three sections of two hours each on thursday in room 416 and the auditorium of packard laboratory two hundred and forty-five soph omore engineering students will take the test this examination and the scho lastic average of each student will be the basis for determining whe ther he will be allowed to contin ue in engineering during his jun ior year those who are denied continuation in engineering will be free to transfer to the arts or business college of lehigh or any other institution of their choice all those eligible to take the examination including social soph omores will be notified by letter should any questions regarding eligibility arise students are to consult a copeland callen dean of the college of engineering the examination which consists of 88 questions requiring an aver age of four minutes each for ans wering will be given in three parts 8-10 a m 10-12 a m and 2-4 p m the test is compiled and administered by a committee of the engineering faculty it con tains questions primarily in math ematics physics and chemistry that cover the material the teach ers believe should be retained and carried into the junior year two hundred forty-five men will take the test this year as compared to 260 last year of whom 33 were denied continuance in engineering the highest man last year received
