matter requiring official concern robert snyder councilman and vice president of moravian college was instrumental in editing the resolution into its final form and getting it passed he originally objected to the wording which he felt slanted too much towards the cam bodian issue be said that the resolution and its backers always went back to cambodia he said that the resolution should " really be opposed to all wars snyder further noted that the way to handle the situation would be to suspend the rules of the council to get around the provision which would require a one session moratorium before action could be taken councilman william collins opposed suspending the rules in reference to those sup porting the resolution he said i frankly share the views of that side however he found the presentations " views of one side and he felt that the other side if there is one should be represented the suspension of rules was brought to a vote and the motion passed 5-2 following the vote a 10-minute recess was called after the recess the councilman emerged with an edited version of the resolution which was more general this generalization served to remove the objections of snyder and another year has passed and still the conditions for black students on lehlgh's campus are far from encouraging most of the blacks on campus seriously doubt the sincerity of the pseudo-liberal white population and the total situation justifi ably warrants a violent confrontation lehigh blacks made their demands last may but still the significant issues and needs have not been eliminated so they gave us a small music room which was seldom used hoping to pacify us coinctdentally i'm sure along with the new liberal arts building they are going to install thousands of dollars worth of music equipment also they gave us not a black dean but instead just a dean who happens to be black it is also coincidental to note that arrangements had previously been made for dean parr to take over seldle*s administrative position dean quay to take over parr's and dean harris to take quay's position the administra tion's sincerity is much in question when you go through the channels and talk to them about hiring a black admts sions officer they talk shit to you they talk some bullshit about money but still they can afford to have extravagant dinners at lewis house with bored wait ers and huge bowls of shrimp with sauces when you go to them to talk about in creasing the black population remember 80 they don't talk shit they just don't do a damn thing may 7th 10 are coming when you talk to the administration about initiating a program to develop black sec ondary school students who are interested in science and engineering they merely laugh at you i could go on and on about increasing the black faculty now lehigh has two com muting part time teachers about a black studies department about black grad uate students but in writing this attempt would be futile . you get uptight when we use the word " violence , because you know that it will be directed against you and now you want to save your white middle-class neck but i'm still content to break it the hell off you see you should have gotten uptight when lehigh and bethlehem steel started destroying south bethlehem that was vio lent and when they fired jerry krebs this is subtle violence you should have gotten uptight when the police pigs blew up the baltimore black panther party headquarters or when nixon cut back on the anti-poverty program you should have gotten up tight when all of these oppressive activities occurred you see i would be a fool to talk of run ning after a beast in a forest with only a twig and so as a " knowledgeable col lege student who his taken at least one logic course i will run after that beast lehigh imperialism with a damn club forcing the beast to if s knees so when someone talks of violence don't get uptight and moral you haven't been for your whole decadent society
