a pep rally in grace hall followed by the burning of the bonfire in upper taylor field tonight will kick off the varied activities of lafayette weekend the weekend which ls dedicated to alumni will also feature a undergraduate-alumni dance in the hotel bethlehem tomorrow night in addition the lehigh alumni association and various fraternities are planning other alumni activities the parade will start at 7 p.m on memorial drive the route ls scheduled to lead down new street across the bridge to center street left on broad street to main street and will culminate at the moravian woman's dorms once there the freshmen will serenade the girls and ask for tokens from the girls the freshman class president will present a bouquet of roses to a moravian freshman officer the girls are scheduled to pull their window shades and turn off their lights to mark the parade's end the rally tonight will be led by prof john s steckbeck assistant professor of physical education and will feature the university band the cheerleaders and the introduction of the lehigh team dr w demlng lewis president of the university will give the welcoming address fred dunlap head football coach will introduce the team william b leckonby director of the athletics division will also speak during the rally freshman living group sections will present skits and songs prophesying the demise of the lafayette team also at that time the new class officers of the freshman class will be announced immediately after the singing of the alma mater the rally will move onto upper taylor field where the lafayette bonfire will be lit prepared by the freshman class yesterday and earlier today the flames are supposed to reach 69 feet — the maximum height set by the bethlehem fire department to abide by safety regulations b&w photo by butt wood for lafayette bonfire is dumped by truck into upper taylor field the wood comes from the packer ave redevelopement area thursday night freshmen will guard the bonfire against intruders before it is finally lit friday night steps are being taken to place m-m on pro by marty marasco steps have been taken toward placing mcclintic-marshall house on social probation the action was taken on wed nesday by dean peter shurtleff assistant director of residence who cited " the repeated failure to clean-up after social functions as the reason for his move shurtleff sent a letter to thomas gilligan 68 president of the house on wednesday stating that the house would be placed on social probation monday he said in the letter that probation would be lifted when he received the assurance he needed that the existing prob lems have been rectified however on thursday shurt leff said that some question had been raised in connection with due process and that as a result the matter would be re ported to the university committee on discipline for re ferral to the proper authorities shurtleff said the office of residence 3 understanding with student groups has been that social events may be held but in the past m&m has not cleaned up after the event we request that areas be restored to the condition which existed prior to the event and things be put away " however on numerous occa sions social accessories have been left around two three four and five days continued shurt leff he added that his office has issued reminders on numerous occasions about the problem of arcadia's social codes com mittee discusses social code changes with rhc at the tuesday night meeting the code changes were overwhelm ingly approved by rhc and were passed at wednesday night's arcadia meeting solons seek changes in social code arcadia passed several proposed changes in the social code for upperclassmen and established an arcadia develop ment committee to work toward the improvement of theater facilities at their meeting wednesday the changes in the social code would eliminate the need for chaperons at parties permit women guests ln rooms of living groups until 12 p.m on week nights and until 2 a.m an friday and saturday nights make the presidents of living groups spokesmen for the actions of their living groups and put collective responsibility on the living group in the event the individuals of the group are not willing to accept it the purpose of the motion as outlines by the social codes committee in the proposal is to bring social regulations into harmony with present practices the proposals will be presented to the student life committee and lf passed will go to the faculty for final approval subject to rejection by the board of trustees the arcadia development committee will have as its objectives the raising of funds to be used for the construction of a small theater for dramatics possibly as part of a performing arts complex consisting of an orchestral hall adjacent to or convertible to a small theater and for the purchase of a portable stage stage equipment and lighting for use in the field house to in built with centennial development fund money the committee will also draw up plans for the design of the project with professors davis flkus cutler mr leckonby and displays depict pard as the hapless victim by jaime bi der man this year's i_afayette displays portray methods of depriving the helpless leopard of his last bit of dignity as he ls canned shot snaked chased and waffled alpha chi rho even claims that the hapless
