wrestling at 1 28 pounds and frank bail ey wrestling at 1 36 pounds defeated their opponents in pre liminary bouts boyer won by decision over redmon of harvard he now advances to the first round of the tournament to meet hess of perm state results pairings in e.lw.a meet the annual banquet given the varsity junior varsity and fresh men wrestling squads by r a lewis general manager of the bethlehem steel company will be held at 6:30 p m monday at the saucon valley country club the captain of next year's var sity team will be announced at the affair at this time also the fresh men wrestler judged most out standing in the recent competitions will be presented with r a lewis cup the banquet customarily held the monday after the eastern in tercollegiate wrestling champion ship is informal guests invited will include administrative and athletic officials of the university sports arena to be smaller because too few applicants for the student concert-lecture ser ies committee filled out question naires before the deadline last week richard c kelley chem 40 chairman of the committee has extended the deadline one week applications must be filed with the registrar before 5 p m monday six juniors will be selected by president clement c williams on the basis of recommendation by the present committee composed of six seniors and five members of the faculty applications for member ship on the 1940-41 committee will be considered at a meeting of the group on tuesday members of the present commit tee will work together w.'th the newly-selected upperclassmen to select the program for next year during the 1940-41 season the new committee will be in charge of ar rangements for all programs in the series grace hall will contain only those features most necessary plan dances for weekend arcadia and 3 fraternities will sponsor affairs collegians to play the president and vice president of the individual town sections will be elected this spring in con junction with arcadia elections in stead of next fall announced nor man l morse ch e 40 president of the town council the town council at a meeting tuesday evening in drown hall provided by a unanimous vote for this selection of council members so as to form a nucleus enabling the council to function more effi ciently the following fall the council also feels that freshmen who constitute a sizable portion of the section voters do not know in dividual candidates well enough to vote on their merits early in the fall to nominate by petitions individual ballots for each sec tion will be obtainable at the spring elections for the choosing of candidates from that section mem bers will nominate their candi dates for president through peti tions the runner-up automatically becoming vice-president election of the section secretary and athletic director will be held at the first meeting of the section the following fall as was done this year in the event that the section president or vice president should live in a different town section or living group the year after elec tion a new president and vice president will also be chosen at this meeting the council also voted to hold the final town dance of the year on saturday may 4 instead of on the saturday night of spring houseparty as was originally plan ned arcadia approved a plan for a distinction to be made between major and minor sports letters awarded a committee was appointed by arcadia to consider the above sug gestion of harmeson and also to make suggestions as to the size of the major and minor letters the committee is made up of alfred t cox c e 40 william b simpson arts 41 and carl r fittkau arts 40 arcadia also approved the pur chase of two bonds of the cosmo politan club at a value of ten dol lars each the money from the bonds is to be used to finance the furnishing of part of the club the freshman hat of the class of 1944 will be made of gabardine arcadia announced and will be of the same patern as that of the class of 1943 gabardine was chosen be cause it made a better looking hat in the opinion of arcadia members and will shrink less than the felt hat of last year princeton man to talk here pi delta chapters to meet jointly lehigh moravian societies will hear gramley when bids are let near the end of march for the construction of grace hall contractors will work from plans calling for a much smaller building than was origin ally intended according to president c c williams grace hall will house only the things most needed namely a sports arena and a dance and drill hall the difficulty of building a stage he said would prevent the construction of an au ditorium he added that a suitable stage would have to be more than one story in height this would differ from the basic plan of the arcadia room of drown hall last night before the dinner meet ing the plan for shortening the graduation period will be submit ted to president williams for ap proval by the university along with the plans for outdoor gradu ation favored by the class in case of rain however the graduation would be held in packer chapel with facilities for wiring packard auditorium for sound in order to accomodate the overflow of parents and guestt makes graduation monday under the new plan saturday would become class day an infor mal senior dance would be held saturday evening baccalaureate exercises would be on sunday and graduation on monday there is some doubt as to whether the hotel facilities in bethlehem could handle the alumni and parents at the same time and a committee will be appointed to
