precedent-setting decision pi lambda phi fraternity has been placed on both social and disciplinary proba tion and is forbidden to serve or possess alcohol on their premises or to serve alcohol at any fraternity function until the end of the 84 b5 academic year it was announced last night the fraternity is also responsible for seeing that no alcoholic beverages are brought into the house or to any of their functions by any outside party the social probation possibly the severest ever handed out by the disciplinary committee could have a crippling effect on the survival of the fraternity open house at pi lambda phi is on sunday and one brother said we need 20 new brothers how does the university expect us to get them the discipline committee said the reasoning behind the severity of the sanctions was that the fraternity had pleaded guilty to four charges that were degrading to both person and property a statement from a pi lambda phi spokesman said that they have yet to receive official notice from the university , but if what we've heard is correct we will investigate into an appeal the sanctions stem from four charges brought against pi lambda phi by the university to which the charges under the corporate responsibihty sec tion of the university code of conduct the pi lambda phi fraternity is charged with taking without permission lambda chi's racing bed from lambda chi on april 25 1984 vomiting in the bar of lambda chi on april 26 1 964 urinating on the floor of tau epsilon phi and break ing a toaster over there on april 26 1984 members oi pi lambda phi were engaged in a campus crawl on thursday april 26 1 984 in viola tion of dean quay's statement of university policy dated aprin 9 1984 fraternity upon recommendation of its advisers pleaded guilty three of the charges were violations of the university code of conduct section d which covers offenses against property the first charge was for taking without permission lambda chi alpha's racing bed from lambda chi alpha's premises on april 25 1984 the second charge was for recklessly interfering with the use of property by another specifically in ref erence to several pi lambda phi brothers who vomited in the bar of lambda chi alpha on april 26 1984 the third charge was for destroying or damaging the property of another on lehigh premises stemming from an incident where two pi lambda phi brothers had urinated on the floor of tau epsilon phi and for breaking a toaster oven there on april 26 1984 the fourth charge was for a violation of the univer sity code of conduct section e which covers offenses against lehigh pi lambda phi was found to have engaged in a campus crawl a former tradition at lehigh which consisted of a group of people on the thursday of greek week going to all 31 fraternities and chugging at least one beer at each house campus crawls were banned at lehigh in 1981 due to the exces sively rowdy and destructive behavior of some of the participants sac concert scandal who's next just waite by dhiren shah scandal and john waite the first concert performers of the 84-'b5 academic year will mark the start of a good year if student support is given according to richard fritz stabler events director al bluestine student activities council sac concert chairman said i really want to see students come down tickets go on sale mondy at the bookstore for the october 17 performance according to lorraine scheibener student activities coordinator and adviser to sac stabler has attracted very big names in the past such as billy joel kansas joe jackson tom petty phil collins the kinks yes and john denver bluestine said that the reason for this was that stabler was the new kid in town between 79 and 82 and everyone wanted to see how receptive they would be he added that another reason was that many bands were on tour between 80 and 82 recent slow-down explained fritz attributes the recent slow-down of events to a bad combina tion of the talent available and the market that they are looking for he added that 40 percent fewer groups for secondary markets are on the road today as compared to a year-and-a-half ago fritz defined stabler as a secondary market because it only holds 6,000 people compared to the spectrum in philadelphia which is a prim ary market and holds 20,000 people assault charges filed vs 2 atos by pete t rumbore a bethlehem woman has privately filed criminal charges against two members of alpha tau omega ato fraternity in connection with an incident which occurred at the fraternity aug 31 dawn santiasgo 20 of 534 broadway has charged the two members with sim ple assault after she and her husband enrique gonzalez 19 were allegedly attacked during a party at the fraternity house according to bethlehem district mag istrate john gambosi a private citizen has the right to privately file criminal charges against another person if law enforcement officials decline to press charges ato president james suerman declined to comment as did both of the accused one brother said that he would need legal counsel before making any statement and the other said that he was told not to talk to the brown & while theß & w will withhold the names of the accused unless the district magistrate decides to institute formal charges against them neither santiago nor her husband are listed in the bethlehem telephone direc tory and could not be reached for comrnent according to a report filed by campus police officer rafael perez he arrived at the fraternity around 2 15 a.m finding " 15 or 20 students . in front of ato the report said that he saw a man being held by about three frat brothers and noticed a female santiago sitting in a vehicle with blood coming from her nose and mouth the report stated that santiago accused one brother of punching her in the mouth and nose and the other with ripping her shirt pulling off her bra and making lewd suggestions to her santi ago and gonzalez were transported to st luke's hospital for examination and the fraternity men were taken into custody for questioning a report given to campus police inves tigator edward shupp by dr robert hall said gonzalez had some lacera tions of the face and some bruises on the back but nothing major was wrong shupp's incident report stated that santi ago was bleeding from the nose but oth erwise suffered no other injuries according to shupp's report state ments were taken from santiago and both atos who were kept separated prior to questioning the report said that the brothers versions of the incident at
