convocation keynoters — lehigh university board of trustees president m j rathbcne left will preside over thursdry's centennial convection keynote dinner at hots bethlehem frederick r kappel right chairman of the board of at&t will address the invited guests at dinner circle in the square players score with pirandello drama the voice of the turtle thirteen lehigh valley residents from almost as many walks of life will be cited for their service to the community during lehigh's centennial convocation the honors convocation in grace hall saturday evening will con clude the three-day program dr harvey a neville university pres ident will present those honored with medals struck for the occasion earlier saturday evening the citees will be guests at the civic dinner in the hotel bethlehem twelve men and one woman mrs helen deschweinitz couch are to be honored mrs couch is widely known throughout the area for her role in civic affairs a trustee of moravian college and moravian seminary and a member of the board of directors of the muhlenberg medical center she has been named woman of the year by the business and professional women's club and has received the american legion's distinguished service award two prominent religious leaders are among the cilees the most rev joseph mcshea roman catholic bishop of allentown and the rt rev frederick j warnecke bishop of the episcopal diocese of bethlehem bishop mcshea was appointed to the allentown see in 1962 by the late pope john xxiii after almost 40 years of service in the cath olic church he received doctorates in philosophy and sacred theology following some six years of study at the pontifical roman seminary bishop warnecke has been head of the bethlehem diocese since 1953 a graduate of columbia university and the virginia theological sem inary he served as editor of the southern churchman national episi copal weekly for four years see 13 page 3 buildings special convocation parking tickets have been issued to all guests who have made reserva tions for the convocation includ ing members of the lehigh faculty all members of the staff who have not been issued convocation parking tickets but normally bom bastic onomatpoeia and emotional outpourings he might say that the perform ance given by the circle in the square players sunday afternoon in broughal auditorium was a beautifully fantastic fanfare of his trionic pyrotechnics and through all his sticky verbal slobberings you might get the impression that the show was good it was very this same company of actors who scored heavily when they presented the dylan thomas clas sic under milkwood here three years ago repeated their success with the provocative pirandello drama six characters in search of an author the talented play ers showed their professionalism in every line be it drama or comic-relief rifying flood cf human experience a father and his step-daughter ex perience a few moments of sensual delight in a brothel and an etern ity of remorse afterward a child kills his younger sister and com mits suicide but the sensational elements of sororicide and incest are symbolic of the truly horrifying aspect of misunderstanding and incommun icability in the family the psy chology in the lines and their de see circle page 7 but before you sluff this period ical off your desk and into the cir cular file have a listen you like sex this show had it you like the macabre two deli cious deaths including a drowning and a suicide if you weren't there you missed something but you missed something else too this intriguing metaphysical drama dealt with the fusion of life to illusion the play depicts how a moment in life can be frozen in to a permanent microcosm of beauty through art the people caught in this vortex of tragedy and frozen into an im mutable state of art are the characters from the pen of an un known author he has deserted them and left them tragically un fulfilled they are searching for an author so they can re-enact their lives consequently they interrupt a play rehearsal and ask the director to be their author confusedly the director allows them to play their roles what results is a hor voice of america to air four panel discussions wallops crowd — the circle in the square players presented six characters in search of an author last sunday to a near capacity crowd in broughal auditorium audience was visibly affected by psychology and delivery of the lines the voice of america radio network will broadcast four of the lehigh centennial convocation panel discussions scheduled for friday and saturday over its worldwide facilities accommodations for 50 members of the press have been arranged by the office of public information at the hotel bethlehem and in grace hall national and local newspapers radio and television sta tions and magazines will be on the campus to cover the three-day event the four panel discussions and other activities this weekend will launch centennial observances culminating in 1965-66 866-0331 brown and white bethlehem pa - tuesday october 22 1963 valley leaders 73 to be honored at convocation vol 75 — no 11 convocation this weekend
