interesting to the on looker the proposed changes which will be bro.ught up at the meeting of the inter-collegiate wrestling associa tion are in coach s ot>i m y r j port following : proposed changes in inter collegiate wrestling rules the rules of inter-collegiate wrestling as presently constituted need revision on several vital points and the following changes would be to the interest not only of the game but to the participant as well 1 a change in the rule which permits a one-pound overweight at weighing in for instance a man can weigh in at 116 pounds for the 115 pound class at which weight that man cannot claim to be 115-pound champion if he has never made that weight 2 a most vital weakness of all is the presnt practice of allowing men to weigh in eight hours in ad vance of dual meets and champion ships this eight-hour leeway can and is being abused to the detri ment of the health of many wrest lers who take part in the meet par ticularly the championships by en couraging men to train down as much as fifteen and twenty pounds in many instances because wrest lers and coaches feel that men can gain as much as eight and ten pounds in eight hours and there fore have an advantage over a man who is naturally of required weight this rule should be changed so that no more than two hours is al lowed before weighing in ; a rule of this kind would prevent men from going through what is nothing more or less than torture and self denial that has no equal in any line of athletic endeavor and the future health of the wrestler would be safe-guarded against his own im
