changes made in alumni bulletin vol xxvii no 43 plans for the season outlined to squad at meeting tuesday awards for season's shooting to be made in may to winners infield of diamond will probably be in shape first of next week educational committee appointed recently c d marshall bb chairman opening contests indicate closely contested games in semi-finals " team left f or pennsylvania this morning finals to=morrow coach keady laid up issued monthly more candidates are needed for assistant manager of team quarterly publication of bulletin abandoned because of deficit with the arrival of spring la crosse practice has started in earnest and practice is going ahead for the first game which is two weeksi away so far the men have spent most of the time passing the ball and limbering up ; next week however a few practice games will be held coach o neill who arrived from canada this week immediately took charge of the squad in a short talk to the men last tuesday he outlined a few of the plans for the coming season while o'neill refuses to make any promises con cerning the coming season he is very optimistic concerning the chances for a successful year tentative plans have been dis cussed for booking another game a western and a southern team be ing under consideration but noth ing definite has yet been done manager hunton announces a call for candidates for assistant manager to report to him in the trophy room of the gyim.next mon day at 4 p.m while a considerable number of nt n iiixuuovi reported 1 wr prau tice the squad is not up to expecta tions and coach o'neill urges more men to come out r o t c tries early morning drill this morning the wrestling team left for philadelphia where it will contest for honors in the intercol legiate meet this afternoon and on saturday ever since the meet with perm state the team has been going through strenuous practice and coach ' ' billy sheridan made the statement this is the best team we have had this season and every bout will be hotly contested by the brown and white repre sentative he does not predict victory but he feels confident that the team is well developed and in fine trim the taking of quite a few second places is assured for by compar ing the different meets it can be seen that we have strong represent atives sheridan has picked his team after much deliberation and observation and the following ones will represent lehigh at the meet : in the 115-pound class brunner has been selected he is fast and clever though rather inexperienced his wrestling has shown up to good advantage l has again been chosen this man is undoubtedly the right one and will give a good exhibition hoffman who has been working hard all season will represent the 135-pound class bertolet who has shown much speed and head work all season will represent the 145-pound class in the 158-pound class f berg doll will participate in the 175-pourad class good will battle for the brown and white and is expected to win his place captain booth is undoubtedly the favorite among the intercol legiate heavyweights and it is al most certain that he will retain his title as a whole this is a good team not as strong as last year but fast and clever and although victory cannot be promised a close meet is anticipated and lehigh should win a place senior geology trips sometime between 5 30 a.m and 6 o clock on last wednesday morn ing nearly three hundred alarm clocks tolled the knell of parting night the unit assembled in the morn ing mist at the gymnasium and after roll-call showed their skill at executing the manual of arms here and there throughout the uni formed ranks was a belt upside down a bayonet out of place and several other minor details out of order but on the whole the uni forms seemed a good fit the men pretty well experienced in rolling spiral puttees and the whole get up of most of the outfit was neat and soldierly the unit was re viewed by president drinker and dr emery the latter was heard to say that he wished he were in the ranks promptly at seven the vari ous companies were dismissed for breakfast the rifle team in spite of the long delay in getting its rifles has gotten well under way at last and during the past two weeks has shot seven matches these matches were to have been run off one match a week beginning february 14 but had to be crowded into as short a time as possible to bring the team schedule up to date the scores made were very creditable but will probably im prove as the season progresses they are as follows : match 1 match 2 cottrell .... 192 lerch 187 holmes ... 190 holmes 185 compher . . . 187 lewando . . . 185 lerch 182 davidson 184 ferguson . . 175 richards . . . 184 team 926 team 925 match 3 match 4 holmes .... 187 lerch 192 lerch 184 schulz 184 ferguson . . 182 lorch 181 davidson . . 181 lewando . . . 186 marshall ... 179 davidson . . 173 wmm 913 tvarn a|6 ,-_. , . .... ! '• on wednesday night the sopho more cotillion club met to com plete the arrangements for the junior week dance the chair men of the various committees re ported their plans after which a budget of assets and equities for the coming hop was presented and accepted the budget showed a radical change in the disbursement of finances from the last dance which will result in an attractive even ing for those attending the com mittees are endeavoring to make it the best social function ever given by a sophomore class notice seniors ! more men are needed lor the la crosse team come out and help keep lehigh s team on the map practice is held every afternoon at 4 o'clock report either to coach o neill or captain nesselbush w t o neill coach the alumni bulletin of lehigh which has been published quarterly will be published monthly here after from october to june inclu sive and the subscription rate will be two dollars a year this action was recently approved by the board of trustees of the alumni association of lehigh and is a means of increasing the revenue which is necessary in the mainten ance of the alumni offices and office force at present there is a deficit from unpaid dues and instead of increasing the dues and thus making those who have supported the association pay the back dues a monthly publication of the bulletin was decided upon a lehigh alumni educational committee was formed at a meet ing held in philadelphia on feb ixxtakj 83 mi tills jvvii c)ix±xili^i o ganizations are found in the differ ent colleges throughout the country including one at yale which has accomplished much in the way of university development the ob ject of this educational committee is to receive and disseminate in formation on subjects which are constructive which fit in with the university program of work and which are within the financial limits of the university any sug gestions given the committee will be considered but unless they ful fill the above requirements they may not be very helpful but may nevertheless be more or less en lightening the committee is to compare and analyze information given them by those who possess the knowledge inherent to the uni versity problems they will con sult with experts on the subjects and try and turn the varying sug gestions and recommendations into a few general principles which meet with the approval of the faculty third page the frosh baseball squad has been showing up very well every day on the upper field where prac tices have been held regularly in the afternoon from 4 to 5 30 there is every indication of a very successful season as there is much competition for each position manager conroy does not wish to publish the list of games as yet as the tentative schedule is not al together completed and there may be several changes that will effect the whole list however games have been secured with many of the neighboring colleges and schools and several trips are ex pected , the first game will be played either on the 3rd or 7th of april '. , orders for class day programs must be given to the committee by march 27 the committee consists of estes gilmore jenness bug bee and melville the geology department under prof miller is planning to begin the spring field trips for senior geologists soon after the easter holidays the first according to present arrangements will be to lansford pa to study the operations of the lehigh coal & navigation com pany and the hauto electric com pany at the same time the class will go to the summit hill fire and inspect the burning coal mine which has been going on for about forty years the second trip will be to corn wall pa where the largest of the iron mines of pennsylvania are located the class will also visit the lebanon mills another trip will include the magnetite deposits and the iron mines of the empire steel and iron company at oxford n j on the last of this series the franklin furnaces and the zinc mines at franklin n j and also the bethlehem steel co stone quarries at mcafee n j will be visited in the first game of the inter fraternity basketball league the phi delta theta five easily troun ced the sigma chi team by the score of 32-10 the phi delts took the lead right at the start and with good shots by the whole team easily gained a safe margin which they held throughout the entire contest light and coleman the fast for wards were easily the stars of the game the former ringing in three counters two long and difficult shots in the first half and the other registering five mcgowan also showed up very well for the
