• ... i^c^u-n.uiiwi uvxtci rlilu tcurlllg si;i cv innings only two lafayette men reached first base at both these times our men came to bason's rescue and by snappy double plays killed chances of a score on the other hand lehigh had more than one chance to tally but each time the necessary hit was not forth coming two men being caught at home plate in the eighth inning the eastonions changed pitchers and schneider who was being touched up with alarming fre quency was replaced by 11 dern otte this gentleman quickly snatched away hopes of the brown and white and proved to be a large factor in drawing victory to his team the fielding of both teams was of the very first class however that of lehigh was a shade the better being credited with only one error and that a difficult chance to eose n addition the work of the brown and white team was aug mented by the two fast double plays pulled off by it at the bat lehigh again had the better of the argument hitting safely five times while lafayette connected with only three in flic first inning wolfram hit to swank who threw wide and the runner secured the bag the catcher then dropped the third strike on rose and while the batter was out wolfram took third base on the play with heist at bat an attempt at a squeeze play was made but the runner was caught with a good margin heist fanned in lafayette's half of the first both schneider and matson sent a fly out to upteg raff and conover died altemus to anderson uptcgrafl 1 grounded out second to continued on second page important business transacted an important college meeting was held on friday in the physics laboratory at which business of considerable interest to the student body was transacted president bell is of the senior class after calling the meeting to order sub mitted the following report of the finances of drown hall — cr matriculation fees 2049 00 supply bureau profits 2057 68 total 14106 68 dr janitors $ 840 00 general expenditures 11 months 557 49 general expenditures may estimated 42 51 heat and light 1560 00 water 80 00 total 3obo 00 credit balance 1026 68 supply bureau eesources divid ed as follows — cash „ $ 7.14 18 merchandise 995 23 fixtures 348 27 total $ 2 0 5 76 8 after reading this most excellent report the floor was surrendered fco dr drinker dr drinker spoke very highly of the efficient manage ment of this new departure in student activity and told of some of the plans for the utilization of the profits the plans in brief are as follows a certain percentage of the profit is to be spent with the approval of the student body in equipping drown hall with pool and billiard tables dr drinker told of several excellent bargains that might be secured in this line and also told of an opportunity of fitting our hall with bowling alleys paying the expenses of same from future profits of drown hall hope was also expressed by the president that the number of tennis courts on our campus might be increased this summer dr drinker's talk was received with much applause and considerable gratification was ex pressed at this excellent report in his talk dr drinker told of the gift of the class of 7 78 to the student body and suggested that a committee be appointed to partici pate in the acceptance of the flag pole and also in the acceptance of sayre park from the children of robert h sayre following this suggestion the presidents of the four classes were appointed to con stitute such a committee in order to show the appreciation of the student body of 78's gift and their desire to preserve the flag staff in a condition of perpetual beauty the following resolution was passed and added to the college continued on third page the brown and white lehigh university south bethlehem pa tuesday may 18 1909 track meet college meeting vol xvi no 55 calendar
