college lecture ture course last number of y m c a lee ion jackson co the last of the series of the young men's christian association course was given in the physical lab on monday night by the lon jackson concert company before a representative audience of stu dents and people of the bethlehems the concert a combination of vo cal and instrumental music was of an extremely high order and main tained the same high standard set by the previous numbers of the course the work of the four so loists marked each as a finished artist and furnished a treat to those musically inclined the personnel of the company included dr lon jackson tenor miss anna h otten violinist miss adah hussey contralto and chester searle pianist dr jack son and miss hussey are gifted with voices of unusual range and quality and ' showed themselves equally capable in duet and solo work miss otten the accom plished violinist of the company displayed splendid technique tem peramental qualities and a dexter ity in difficult selections that made her performances remarkable in the piano solo concert waltz chester searle exhibited his skill as a pianist while as an accompa nist to the other artists his work was excellent the encore which each number of the varied program received attested the admiration and pleas ure of the large audience cer tainly the y m c a is to be congratulated for presenting such an attractive entertainment course it speaks well for lehigh to have persons of national repute such as have appeared here this season come here under the under the auspices of a college organization and we trust that a similarly high grade course may be arranged for next year the following is a list of theses of the senior mechanical : ammer w j design of a 300 b.h.p gas engine bachmari c l complete ditions of the gas engine continued on page three in an article in science by prof w s franklin in writing of the tungsten lamp he says that it is generally conceded that within a year an electric glow lamp the tungsten lamp will be on the market and that the output of light per unit of power consumed will be increased at least threefold above that which is now obtained by the carbon filament lamp this means that the light-produc ing capacity of every electric-light ing station in the world can be multiplied by three with the possi bility of greatly reduced prices per unit ot light and regular monthly meeting of the athletic committee was held thursday afternoon in christmas hall owing to the fact that the musical clubs are to hold their joint concert on saturday evening march 16th manager smith was authorized to have the basket ball game with manhattan scheduled for the same evening played in the afternoon march 23rd was ap proved as the date for the annual l gymnastic contest manager barth submitted the following lacrosse schedule which was approved : apr 10 c c n y at south beth " 12 pending " 13 mt washington at balti more 18 harvard at south bethle hem " 20 johns hopkins at baltimore " 27 stevens at hoboken may 4 swarthmore at south beth lehem additional games with columbia and the onandago indians are un der consideration manager waddill has not fully completed his track schedule but the foil owingm>eets were submitted and approved : apr 27 phila relay races at phila may 4 f & m at lancaster may 8 haverford at haverford june 1 lafayette at south bethle hem the junior class gathered at the wyandotte hotel on tuesday evening to hold its third annual banquet the arrangements of the committee in charge was excellent in every way and there was a marked contrast between this as semblage and that of a year ago both as to menu and conduct a slight delay in opening the dining-room doors served to render the men more appreciative of the delectable viands set before them and after they had received full justice president smith acting as toastmaster introduced the various speakers by some clever remarks " minstrelsy the first toast was given by " beck " bechtel who acquitted himself as ably as usual in that line " reminiscenses " of last year's banquet by " dowie " brennan was not less appreciated while the hit of the evening was a clever toast on " our posterity ' by percy story dick roberts presented the serious side of college life in speaking of the new york central and " ling erie by " bill " gotschall and society by jim fair were equally well received interspersed between the set toasts and succeeding them were extemporaraneous remarks by the guests of the evening president carlock of the senior class and captain travis of the basketball team and troutman van vleck mccann heck jessup torrey and warnke after the fountain of wit and humor had temporarily run dry the class sang the alma mater and gave three class yells the men who were present will always have plesant memories of this enjoyable function
