speech by dr newton trie alumni located in greater new york gathered for an in formal dinner at the clubhouse of the new york athletic club on thursday evening december 1 over 80 members attended giving assurance of a hearty lehigh spirit in this section the meeting was presided over by w j hess 95 and was called for the purpose of takng action on the death of dr drown and also for an informal ex change of opinion as to the general requirements of his successor among those who paid tribute to the memory of dr drown and who took part in the discussion relating to his successor were h s drinker 71 of the board of trustees ; mc queen 07 hunt 07 lehigh university south bethlehem pa tuesday december 6 1904 the epitome ever victorious new york club the brown and white athletic committee vol xii more material wanted for the past several weeks the epitome board has been very busy collecting data and statistical rec ords for the 1906 book this por tion of the book is now quite wel 1 in hand and from this time on spe cial effort will be made to secure literary and artistic matter it may be well right here to cal 1 attention again to the fact that prizes will be awarded for the best work in both of these departments any man on the board will gladly furnish information to any one de siring it concerning these prizes and the kind of work by which they are secured these prizes are as an additional incentive to calling forth the talent in college ', remember that nothing is lost in trying and the effort may prove a surprising success for only the best natter turned in will be honored by publication gags and apolied quotations are also in demand what we desire to reflect in this portion of our book is the representative wit and humor of the college do not hesitate to record a humorous incident and slip it into the gag box if it is not igood you will never see it or hear of it again but if g-ood you wi 1l1 l have the honor of pointing it out f j your friends nobody will ever know whence it came except your self and these whom you yourself tell about it so do not be afraid that you will be obliged to submit to knocking on that score sktetches illustrating 1 original verse or any poetic contributions will be especially acceptable stories humorous or serious and views upon subjects around college as seen from the student's eye are are among the list of publishab l e matter tnere s s however no bound or limit to what may be pub lished but what is wanted to speak truthfully is anything any one may turn in for consideration once written do not throw the result of your labors away throw it rather ii o the hands of some member of tho epitome board and we miv b able to make something of it for you but above all do something for the good of your college annual and do it now with two exceptions the senior civil drawing room was a scene of much activity satur day morning last when elections were held for manager and assist ant manager of their base ball team eddie schmidt wa<s elected manager while puc henderson was consoled wi h the position of assistant he being di reeled to arrange the schedule for the southern trip while schmidt attended to diplomatic relations the senk r civil t!eam was or ganized in he spring of the year 1903 and has had a most successful career w'nning seventeen mt of nineteen games played — defeating teams such as kutztown normal and allentown athletics etc the following men were award ed c e.s by the athletic com mittee of the c e department macmullen capt 03 04 05 schmidt mgr 05 ; pentz person clay lynch kline brown seipt walker schnabel ryder little kinne leonard mgr 04 p s no more than 15 c e's are awarded each season ! orchestra rehearsals a rehearsal of the übiversih orchestra was held on sunday af ternoon at the herman club the rehearsal was a success and the way that the several pieces which we're practiced were gotten off would signify that our youngest musical organization will become permanent the orchestra includes twenty-one members their first appearance will be at the minstrel show which is tc beheld on next saturday evening december 10 the members of the orchestra are church/05 leader james seaman fisher meivine brown buchner smith nolan krause eshelman boyle ross sandorf loose grud meyer layman davis mease cloke ammer the next rehearsal will be held on wednesday afternoon at 1.30 o clock at the herman club no 431 cherokee street foot ball spiel captain herman of the foot ba,l team gave the foot ball squad for 1904 a spiel at the brighton satur day evening a goodly number of the squad partook of the whole hearted hospitality of mr herman and enjoyed themselves to perfec tion no 21
