saturday april 27 — at 5.00 p m base ball c c n y vs lehigh at new york at 3.00 p.m lacrosse lehigh vs swart h more on lehigh field relay carnival at philadelphia at 8.15 p.m mustard and cheese dandy dick at grand , opera house sunday april 28 — at 9.30 a m bible study class in christ mas hall at 6.15 p.m meeting of the christian association in christ mas hail monday april 29 at 10.30 a.m prof merriman lectures 00 " essential elements of a cons tract wednesday may 1 — at 3.00 p m lacrosse harvard vs lehigh on lehigh field theses in electrical engineering class of 1901 anderson and fkeudenbergee theory and calculations of the induction motor cassin and ryan induction wattmeter tests flory and staktsman theory and calculations of alternating current transmission lines harrar and welsh conduc tivity tests of copper savidge and van allen re sistance standards the trials for positions on the relay team which is to represent lehigh at the coming relay car nival were held on the athletic field at five o'clock monday after noon owing to the high wind which was blowing at the time the conditions were unfavorable for fast time it had been planned to have several men run at one time but it was finally decided that each man should run against time the track had been carefully graded for the occasion and under more favor able external conditions would cer tainly have been productive of faster time for obvious reasons the time for the quarter will not be given out at present but the general average was good considering the day capt frick was unable to run the ten men who took part in the trials finished in the follow ing order : — ist klar 2nd walcott mccieary 3rd page pierce 4th edmonds brown sth buell carrier 6th becker the team will probably be made up as follows : — ist lap frick ; 2nd wolcott 3rd mccieary 4th klar and substitutes page and pierce the team will leave for philadel phia at 12.10 saturday on wednesday if nothinsr inter feres the trials for the team to meet rutgers will be held they will probably take the form of an informal meet in which all candi dates for the team will take part if the present plans are carried out there will be twelve events 100 yard 220 yard and 440 yard dashes half mile and mile run high and low hurdles pole vault broad jump high jump shot put and hammer throw more candi dates are needed for the jumps and weights lehigh home club sophomore cotillion the second dance of the sopho more cotillion club will be held at the eagle hotel friday april 26 at 9p m this dance is held the night before " dandy dick " is given by the mustard and cheese at the grand opera house and on saturday afternoon at three o'clock lehigh plays swarthrnore in la crosse all members who contem plate attending the game and the play should not forget the dance as has been the custom only those men who are active or honorary members are invited to attend d b mitchell 04 who has been very ill at his home on church street bethlehem is now much improved his condition was at one time quite serious the attend ing physician fearing aperitonitis mr mitchell goes to new york this week to undergo an operation which he hopes will complete his cure the executive committee lias called a meeting of the lehigh home club to beheld in the maen nerchor hall main street at 8 p m on friday evening dr drown will address the club on what a lehigh club can do for the uni versity a quartette from the glee club will sing also the membership of this club is already nearly one hundred the final lecture of the series given by prof macfarlane occurred on tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock the subject was william kingdon clifford the essential facts of his life as presented by prof macfar lane are as follows : william kingdon clifford was born on may 4 1845 his father was a well known and active citi zen of moderate wealth clifford received his elementary education at the local schools and at the age of sixteen was sent to king's col lege in london after he had finished there he went to trinity college cambridge where he gained high distinction in several branches ;
