arcadians to evaluate new constitution wed enrolled six or seven addi tional teams were registered but only on a stand-by basis they will be able to participate in the debate only if previously registered teams drop out or more faculty judges are pro cured vasilew pointed out it was always very difficult to obtain williams contest judges from the faculty but never before did the committee have to stop registration head of the division of speech prof h barrett davis appealed to the arts college faculty at their meeting monday stressing the need for more officials the division re ported that few judges were ob tained from the appeal vasilew said a judge need only spend approximately 45 minutes in his williams contest duties informed sources indicated the judges for the most part are ob tained from the arts college faculty engineering and business college faculty members very rarely volun teer for the contest presently three additional judges are needed for monday's round and two are needed for the friday round before davis's monday ap peal to his arts colleagues there was a possibility that for the first time in the history of the contest the competition would be canceled dr j burke severs chairman of the williams committee discounted this possibility a revised student body constitu tion — the first in twelve years — will be presented to arcadia for its ap proval on wednesday if approved by the solons the new constitution will be the editor of the 1959 epitome has been forced to vacate his posi tion due to scholastic difficulty m edward dehart 60 was removed from the yearbook post on wednesday afternoon by the university board of publications because he is cur rently on academic probation direction of the yearbook will be taken over by an executive commit tee headed by the book's managing editor philip mezey 61 according to the organization's faculty advi sor prof j b mcfadden since the period of publication of the yearbook transcends the period of disciplinary probation we will reexamine dehart's position af ter the beginning of the spring se mester mcfadden told the brown and white university regulations pro hibit a studtent on academic probation from representing the university or serving on the executive committee of such an organization mcfadden noted that the book is the effective product of one man's ideas the university has invested a substantial sum s23,ooo in de hart's ideas the executive commit lee will carry on in his behalf it is unrealistic to think that in this case a man's probationary status effectively eliminates him from all connection with the publi cation he added group creates arts magazine a new lehigh publication was born wednesday tabbed endor a magazine of the arts the first edition of the john talucci 61 has further explained the role his honorary will play in holding of freshmen elections following publication of an article in tuesday's brown and white accusing several campus organizations of buck passing talucci explained that his group has fulfilled its promise to hold freshman section elections before the end of october the arrangement was made at a meeting on sept 16 attended by representatives of all groups interested in freshman guidance by tra dition talucci points out class officers are not elected until after lafayette weekend at the end of november there are countless details which must be taken care of by the groups who guide the freshman he notes among those cited were the freshman singing contest and gathering of wood for the freshman bonfire cyanide doesn't feel that freshman cabinet could handle the job since it would be unfamiliar with the work involved talucci points out since the freshmen officers are elected from the freshman cabinet he explained there must be time for the presidents of the 30 different sections who compose the cabinet to get to know one another and choose a well-qualified leader in other developments in the freshman election issue rhc presi dent william eberhart 60 explained that rhc has nothing to do with election of either house or class officers on the freshman level see hodge page 13 presented to the student body for approval at elections on december 7-9 alfred moore 60 revision com mittee chairman called the new document more flexible and noted that it should allow a systemizing and simplification of authority on russian literature and frequent visitor to the u.s.s.r will inaugurate this year's cooperative lecture series next thursday evening simmons will appear on campus for a three-day visit under the auspices of phi beta kappa the cooperative lecture series and residence halls council he will be phi beta kappa's visiting lec turer sponsorship by rhc will mark the first time that a student group has participated in such a program simmons professor of russian literature at columbia is well known as a critic and biographer of russian writers he has written studies of tolstoy dostoevski and pushkin and is presently at work on a volume about chekhov he will arrive on campus on wednesday afternoon nov 4 and will remain until noon on friday nov 6 highlights of his visit will include a public lecture on thursday night phi betta kappa iniation and dinner on thursday discsusions with students and speeches to several classes the cls lecture to be delivered at 8 p.m thursday
