86th congress u s sen joseph s clark said last night the eisen hower era has ended the pennsyl vania legislator proclaimed and the president has an obligation to recognize that fact the democrat spoke to a packard auditorium audience on the responsibilities of political leadership culminating an afternoon of discussion with le high students and faculty mem bers and two university dinners his visit was sponsored by pi gamma mv national social sci ence honorary phi beta kappa and the cooperative lecture series the democratic party has out lined its program for the new con gress sen clark said in a recent speech by the u.s senator from texas and senate majority leader lyndon johnson the major planks of the democratic congress platform were noted including 1 funds to support an agency for outer space research 2 a program to deal with the peaceful use of atomic pow er 3 federal support to increase the water supply of urban areas of the western and eastern sections of the country 4 the need to review foreign policy 5 the need for a consistant policy for latin america 6 the need for a farm program to replace the benson program 7 the need for an adequate labor bill to protect labor interests from racketeers 8 a home for every amer ican family to this sen clark added his per sonal goals for the forthcoming congress he proposed 1 an ex tension of the minimum wage laws 2 better standards for that arcadia was hold ing a meeting next tuesday to dis cuss school spirit as related to the lafayette game the meeting com pulsory to all freshmen will prob ably be held at 4 p.m in packard lab auditorium wright explained that atrcadia was encouraging sanity as well as spirit in this year's lafayette ac tivities all lafayette committee chairmen reported satisfactory progress for their monday night not complete scrooges how ever ifc said it would be all right for houses to send cards to frosh dorm sections rhc president dick topping took steps tuesday night to remove freshmen from the social life of rhc and to reduce the rhc assess ment of freshmen the prexy directed treasurer david horn to draw up a new budget including only the epitome and business expenses he also told horn to make up a separate social budget for rhc this would reduce the freshmen assessment since the actual rhc budget would be smaller topping explained that upper classmen and freshmen should be united in order to present a uni fied front when problems common to all residence halls arise he pointed out however that in such areas as the planning of social events the two groups should be separate this hall at 8 this evening the 96 musicians will be conducted by john frandsen and thomas jensen the first half of the program conducted by frandsen will consist of weber's overture to euryanthe and carl nielsons symphony no z the four temperaments jensen will lead the orchestra during the second part of the program which will feature brahms symphony no 1 in c minor opus 68 jensen conducted this orchestra when it toured the u.s six years ago tonight's program will be a preview of that to be presented at car negie hall on sunday nov 16 they will close the american tour nov 20 in philadelpiha the program will mark an other first in the 23 year history of the series it will be the first time that two conductors have led a symphony orchestra at lehigh the orchestra under the patron age of
