archaeologist speaks tonight internationally-k no w n lecturer and archaeologist prof pellegrino claudio sestieri will speak in the browsing room of the library tonight at 8 p.m on recent excavations at paestum sponsored by the lehigh valley society of the archaeological insti tute of america and alpha epsilon chapter of eta sigma phi the nor ton lecturer of the archaeological institute of america will tell of first hand experiences lehigh university will be tied in with bethlehem steel expansion plans which call for a multi million dollar research center atop south mountain according to a report released friday by steel officials an affinity with lehigh university was one of the reasons given for the decision to locate the research activities in bethlehem several other spots including sparrows point md were considered before the final decision was reached the report which the company released to local papers stated we have undertaken a study in collaboration with lehigh university of the area on south mountain adjoining existing lands of the university that might be found to be suitable for future university needs as well as provide a location for a future research center for our company when asked if he'd comment on this paul franz assistant to the president said we haven't had time to crystallize any statement in response to another question franz stated that the report would seem to indicate that the university had been con sulted by bethlehem steel be fore the release was made to local papers andrew j litzenberger superin tendent of buildings and grounds said all he knows about it is what he's read in the local papers charles j moravec university news editor and director of public information pointed out that the article appearing in local papers had been released by the steel company and that his office had nothing to do with it he said that at present he is not contemplating writing any release concerning the university's point of view things like this take a while before they can crystalize he said moravec also stated that judging from the article he read that noth ing concrete outside of the fact that the land has been purchased has been drawn up the company estimated that at least a year will be required to make detailed architectural and en gineering studies then if economic conditions are such that money can be appropriated construction should begin within the following year about 1,000 acres of land in all stretching from saucon creek on the east to the seidersville road on the west were pur chased by the steel company he believes that if a dean does not keep pace with and attempt to exploit to the fullest advant age the rapid developments within the college he will be well on his way to becoming a mere paper-shuffler to help the arts college keep in step with the rapid strides with which the university is developing the general foods fund has given the college 25,000 how to spend the money to the best advantage for the arts college is one of the problems which faces dean christensen he has had the money for two months while try ing to decide how to spend it a solution to the problem is also be
