note prof william schempf seems to be ask ing during rehearsal for the annual winter band concert to be pre sented in grace hall this sunday afternoon the concert will be the final feature of the mil ball week end a lively program of band music will be presented by the lehigh marching band when they present their 10th annual winter concert at grace hall sunday at 4 p.m featured in the program is the royal fireworks music of handel a suite from the opera comedy on the bridge and several move ments from music for a festival by gordon jacob which was written especially for the 1951 festival of great britain of special note is the spectacular royal fireworks music which was composed in 1749 in celebration of the peace of aix la chapelle and pre sented with as much noise and sets as a hollywood spectacular the musical extravaganza was first presented as the feature of a large outdoor celebration with especially constructed props and over a hundred cannon despite the fine music of handel who conducted the orchestra the celebration turned into a fiasco when the erratic fire works used in the presentation set fire to the prop buildings and sent the huge crowd running sunday's concert will also feature a new ballet for young amer icans by ralph hermann two familiar american folk songs in set tings by siegmeister and a marche troyenne by hector berlioz favorite marches of alford and john philip sousa will also be played william schempf director of the department of music will direct the concert chuck gordan will supply the music for the annual mil ball sat urday night in grace hall from 9 p.m to 1 a.m highlighting the dance will be the crowning of a queen and an exhibition by the army and air force rotc crack drill teams the queen and a court will be nominated by a committee of bain replaces mooney as president of ifc james bain 57 will succeed joseph mooney assistant to the director of admissions as president of ifc at the next meeting of the organization bain is presently vice president of ifc elections will be held at the next ifc meeting for a new vice president to replace bain to be eligible for the office a candidate must be either a past or present president of his fraternity although moonej is still attending several classes he gave up his post as ifc president when he was ap pointed assistant to the director of admissions cadets and final selections will be made by a panel of judges queen and court will be escorted to the bandstand by a guard of scabbard and blade and arnold air society members flowers will be presented to the winning girl by richard cunning ham student commander of air force rotc and donald kleintop cadet colonel of army rotc chuck gordan who will supply music for dance has played at perm and princeton as well as several other eastern schools tickets for the affair may be purchased at lamberton hall around noon from advanced cadets there will also be some tickets for sale at the door the night of the dance chaperones for the ball are col and mrs earle j berryhill col and mrs albert c molter and dean wray h congdon the v?rsity basketball game be tween lehigh and rutgers will pre cede the dance in grace hall and sunday will have the annual winter band concert on the schedule of events for the weekend he didn't walk a mile for it even the greek gods preferred camel cigarettes which are sup posedly an american best-seller or so one would think after a quick glance at one of the statues in the alumni memorial build ing the statue is of a sitting greek god with his arm crossed over his knee there is a camel cigarette between his fingers according to an unofficial report received by the brown and white though the cigarette was disgust edly put there by a student who had chiseled it thinking it was another brand tuesday february 12 1957 un 6-0331 rh counseling duties altered for 61 class vol 6 8 — no 27 dorm squabble pledge paddle prove harmful changes in the residence halls counseling service for 1957-58 will in clude increased counselor duties along with a revised supervisory system in which more authority will be delegated to a head counselor according to a release by dean wray h congdon director 1 , of student personnel services lehigh's freshman year program in the residence halls will be brought into balance with the university's new dining and housing services we are very happy about the new plan said philip b woodroofe director of residence halls the broadened possibilities for academic and general counseling will benefit freshmen immeasurably and the plan will open for a group of our best students from sophomore to grad uate levels new and absorbing campus career opportunities as fresh man residence halls staff members the responsibility and authority of counseling out a methodical 5 decision 15-9 triumph i thigh's attack was stalled after the 167 pound match when dave johnson and ron schirf carried pitt to decisive decisions to break a 9-9 tie and sew up the verdict earlier decisions by standouts bill hillings and ed concert to feature handel spectacular graduate aid offered senior graduating seniors who plan to work for graduate degrees and who are members of phi eta sigma freshman honor society should get in touch with dr r t gallagher faculty adviser of the lehigh chap ter at coxe mining laboratory the national phi eta sigma fraternity offers two 300 schol arships each year friction between sections 2-b and 3-b of the new dormitory reached its peak last thursday when a resident of the third floor section was struck across the bridge of the nose with a pledge paddle raymond roth 57 suffered a broken nose after being hit by a kappa sigma pledge paddle wielded by don miles 59 assist ant station manager of wlrn according to philip b wood roofe director of residence halls woodroofe refused to disclose the names of the people involved but the brown & white secured them from a source who wish to remain anonymous no disciplinary action has yet been taken against the two or robert gleason 58 who was also involved in the incident however it is ex pected that woodroofe will have let ters in the mail this week informing them of their ejection from the resi dence halls gleason whom woodroofe has not been able to contact since the incident will probably be expelled from the dorm for cre ating a disturbance according to the residence halls director it is also presumed that wood roofe will turn in the names of the three to dean wray h congdon according to testimony re ceived by the residence halls di rector gleason who was pre sumed to have been drinking came into the 2-b section and began creating a disturbance by knocking over trash cans and shouting the second time he did this he was discovered by several members of the
