the poll stated that the ike administration has done as well as can be expected a random sampling was taken of lehigh undergraduates from the dorms fraternities and town groups each man polled was presented with a questionnaire and asked to check off one of the following four choices 1 the eisenhower administration has done well 2 the eisenhower administration has done as well as can be expected 3 the eisenhower administration has done as well as can be expected but stevenson could have done bet ter 4 the eisenhower administration has been a flop a percentage break down showed the following marking number 1 was 29 marking number 2 was 63 see ike page 8 arcadian dussinger elected on student recreation platform see dussinger page 4 elected vice-president dussinger is ex-officio chairman of the 16-man committee but he has done most of his work as chairman of the drown hall house committee composed of dussinger ar cadian thomas nitsche apo president paul lienhardt and dean byron c hayes the com mittee has been chiefly respons ible for the improvement of drown hall during the past year renovation of drown hall which was completed this fall was based on recommendations of the commit tee among the improvements ef fected by the renovation are a se parate tv room an area for the pool and billiards tables and more meet ing rooms this is the second article in a series on arcadians their plat forms and efforts to carry them out i was an arcadian last year my chief duty was acting as studen chairman of the drown hall house committee the committee purchas ed ping pong tables and a television set rented pictures for the first floor lounge and performed the many tasks involved in maintaining drown hall as a student center if elected i plan to continue in my present job of making student life more livable like mai gross the other re-elect ed arcadian ed dussinger based his campaign on the promise to con tinue in the work he had done in his first term by al olsen kenneth verostick 55 stole the show in the mustard and cheese presentation of george bernard shaw's play the devil's disciple with his portrayal of gentlemanly johnny burgoyne approximately 650 persons viewed the two-night presenta tion of shaw's play in spite of the diminutive size of the audi ences they responded well to the acting of the cast a some what larger audience saw m&c's production of caesar and cleopatra last fall the play's setting was massachu setts during the american revolu tion the plot centered around dick dudgeon's rebellion against the out ward display of religion by his mother and the townsfolk in place of a sincere attempt to be inwardly good costumes were exceptionally ap propriate and took up the slack left l^y the relatively plain scenery improvements in the dormitory system will be the subject of a report to be turned in to dean wray h congdon by donald halverson noted dormitory system authority upon completion of his visit here halverson was asked to visit the campus and make recommenda tions by dean congdon acting as director of student personnel serv ices according to residence counselor philip woodroofe halverson will also advise him on what role he should play in directing the dormitories director of residence halls at the university of wisconsin for 24 years until his retirement in 1946 halver son now serves as consultant to wis consin and other universities who ask his advice he still maintains his residence in madison home of the university of wisconsin last year he surveyed the dor mitory setup at the university of mississippi many of his rec ommendations have since been adopted wisconsin's dormitory system whittemore and lowe — duo pianists ike's administration still ok according to lehigh psa poll whittemore and lowe duo-pian ists of concert recording and tele-i vision fame will present the third program of the current student concerts-lectures series at 8 p.m friday in grace hall banked as one of the top two piano teams in the united states arthur whittemore and jack lowe have received the accolades of not only the critics but of the music lovers who compose the audience of over 80 annual concerts more than 100 television appearances and who have bought over a million of their records the severest critics have been pleased with their faithful and flaw less interpretation of the classics whittemore and lowe filled in the musical portion with a standout workover of richard rogers fall ing in love with love said vari ety their albums of danceable music have earned them a bob by-sox following and their classical offerings on tour have brought them critical praise look magazine commented you'll be beautifully and stylish ly entertained for the length of the entire program promised the new york world telegram & sun indefatigable workers and versa tile musicians they play virtually all the standard music written for two pianos and have expanded their repertoire with almost 200 arrange ments of their own both pianists hail from the west the young men met while studying at the eastman school of music and gave their ameri can debut at town hall in 1940 and later began a coast-to-coast tour pearl harbor interrupted their career they enlisted in the navy and served until 1946 after which they returned to the concert stage and appeared with every major summer concert series from milwau kee to philadelphia for their exceptional achieve ments the university of rochester observing its centennial awarded whittemore and lowe seats in ita hall of fame a citation bestowed on them as two of the university's 13 most distinguished alumni schempf directs first concert the first concert by the brown and white concert band for the 53 54 season was presented sunday in the newly decorated auditorium in packard laboratory this concert also marked the first time that the concert band has been under the baton of prof william h schempf since his last performance at the pops concert in 1952 the enthusiasm of the approxi mately 500 people in attendance was not dampened by the rain which they encountered on their way to packard lab the program began with the spirited sapnish march ampa rito roca by jaime texidor this was followed by another recent composition for band the see band page 8 average wage for 54 grad tops last year members of the class of 1954 will receive an average salary of be tween 360 and 370 per month after graduation a five per cent increase over last year's record 343 accord ing to frank v palevicz assistant placement director electrical engineering gradu ates last year received top salar ies of 362 while arts men were low with a 318 average salaries for men in the remaining curricula were business 321 chem eng 354 chemists 353 civil eng 346 md eng 342 eng physics 345 mech eng 341 met eng 357 and mine eng 342 that seniors continue to show an increasing interest in job in terviews is shown by the fact that this year each company representative has held an aver age of 32 interviews compared with 20 interviews per company over the same 12-day period in 1952 palevicz requested seniors to ana lyze the job applications more close ly in order to make better use of interviewing time the placement bureau is now op erating at over-capacity conditions being forced to utilize administra tive offices and classrooms to ac commodate the interviewers
