Our guys understand this was a great win because it's the first game and the first league game, but if we don't get a lot better, it's gonna be a long night in Buffalo (next week)." - Lehigh head coach Kevin Higgins *"The thing I was most happy with was we were able to wear them down as the game went on and that's a sign of physical football. We're gonna be a lot better execution-wise next week than we were this week." -Higgins *"It's a great-feeling for us, too. We'll always play hard for him. There's definitely a special bond. Head coach Kevin Higgins couldn'thavedrawnupabetterscriptforhisLehighhead coaching debut than last Saturday's 38-7 thrashing of league rival Fordham. And thebestpart ofthe wholeday. I^highstiuhasanumberofareasinwhichitcanimprove. Maybe the preseason prognosticators were a little offin analyzingthe Brown & White. Or maybe they forgot to factor in the followingitems. Junior quarterback Bob Aylsworth, who threwfourtouchdown passes trans- fen^ toI^mghfromTmaneanddidafter allstartagameagainst Florida State. He didn't figure to get rattled in his Lehigh debut. Infact, he was simply sensational completing22-of-32passesfor 253 yards. The receiving corp.? Well admittedly on paper it looked a little thin, actually verythin. EnterjumorrunningbackBrian Klingerman. About three weeks ago the coaching staff moved him to wide receiver. All he did was catch seven passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns. And unlike pastyearsthiscorp. apparentlyhas somedepm. Junior ErikEkstromhadfour catches as did sophomore Jason Streeter. TightendMarkLaFeir contributed with three catches. O.K. so you have to come to expect receivers to emerge. How about aranninggame. All summer longwe were promised a more balanced Lehigh offense. The combination of flashy sophomore Rabih Abdullah (88 yards) and junior Raphael Stillings (53 yards) helped Lehigh gain 185yards. Obviously the offensive line did a masterfuljob of protectingAylsworth and openingholes for the running backs. Even senior lineman Ray Powers caughtapass. Defensively Lehigh was dominating. Themuchher- aldeddefensivelineliveduptoitspreseasonhypesmoth- eringtheRam runninggame. Senior game captain Sam Lawler led the assault with seven tackles including three sacks.ThesecondaryledbyJasonMack'seighttackleswas also very solid.ForthegameFordhamcouldmanage only 42yards rushing andl85 total yards compared to 438for Lehigh.
