Gardner, Henshaw Shine Against Black Bears Lehigh footballers, challenging unbeaten Massachusetts for first place in the Lambert Cup race and trying to strengthen national ranking acquired after back-to~ back triumphs over Rutgers and Delaware, put some impressive numbers on the scoreboard Saturday in Taylor Stadium. The Engineers (6-1) coasted to a 51-14 margin over Maine (2-5) No TV Saturday's football game in Taylor Stadium, between Lehigh and Colgate, will not be included on ABC-TV's regional or network schedule on Nov. 1. Intensive efforts, by both Lehigh and Colgate officials, to have the contest televised were to no avail, but the game did receive consideration by ABC officials. ABC-TV doesn't plan to feature any Eastern teams on its Nov. 1 schedule. Missouri vs Nebraska will be offered as the network game. Regional contests will be Southern California vs California, LSU vs Mississippi, and South Carolina vs North Carolina State. Publication of this week's South Mountaineer was delayed 24 hours pending a decision on the game by ABC-TV officials in New York, before some 9,500 Freshman Parents Day spectators. Massachusetts, a 29-14 victor over Connecticut, had taken Maine earlier in the season but only by a 10-0 margin. J., were the big guns against the over-matched Black Bears of the Yankee Conference. Gardner carried the ball 18 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns while catching four passes for 79 yards and a third TD. Sterrett, even though being intercepted three times, completed 13 of 20 tosses for 230 yards and three touchdowns, and carried the ball eight times for 26 yards and a touchdown. Henshaw hauled in three aerials for 67 yards including a pair of TDs. Lehigh reached the ultimate in balance with matching totals of 282 yards in rushing and passing, respectively, for a 564-yard afternoon. Lehigh has fielded an intercollegiate football team since 1884. Members of the 1950 squad, which had a 9-0-0 record, are to be feted Saturday, Nov. 1, in Taylor Stadium as the Engineers host Colgate. The Silver Anniversary Salute will include a pre-game parade in the stadium, halftime ceremonies, and post-game activities. This team defeated Delaware, Case, Bucknell, Gettysburg, Dartmouth, Rutgers, Muhlenberg, Carnegie Tech and Lafayette. Acceptances of invitations to attend the Silver Anniversary Salute already have been received from former players and coaches from 12 states including California and Texas. Dr. Deming Lewis, Lehigh president, is scheduled to head a list of dignitaries paying tribute to the 1950 squad.
