Coach's Comment "We seemed to get our offense squared away recently and those victories over Lafayette,Stevens and Penn State found us getting a total of 32 goals. The Penn State triumph was especially welcome.". . . Steve Jacobson, lacrosse. Lehigh lacrossemen (7-2) continued their strong bid for a Middle Atlantic title with triumphs over Stevens, 10-3, and Lafayette, 10-5. They split a pair of non-league decisions, rapping Penn State, 12-4, and bowing at Rutgers, 17-1. Coach Steven Jacobson's squad has a 6-1 loop record and two MAC games remaining. The Engineers were scheduled to host F. & M. yesterday (May 10) before concluding their regular schedule tomorrow (May 12) at Lebanon Valley. F. & M. and Lebanon Valley are"-among the MAC's better clubs and Jacobson felt all-out efforts against each would be necessary to keep title hopes alive. In the 10-5 romp against Lafayette, a trophy attraction, the Engineers found themselves locked in a 2-2 tie at the start of the second half. A six-goal explosion in the first five minutes of the third period decided the issue. John Bassani netted four goals in the non-league but highly impressive rout of Penn State on the Saucon Valley Fields. LAST ISSUE One more issue of the South Mountaineer is scheduled. It will appear on May 25. REV. DAN NOLAN Rev. Dan Nolan Main Speaker The Rev. J. Trackmen Shooting For Perfect Campaign Record-setting performances by Dave McCartney in the triple jump and John Hill in the shot put paced Lehigh's unbeaten trackmen (6-0) to major triumphs over MAC champion West Chester, 83-62, and Lafayette, 86-64. Coach John Covert tabbed the West Chester victory as Lehigh's finest track accomplishment within memory. The powerful Rams are favored to take MAC honors again Saturday as they host the MAC championships. The victory at Lafayette assured Lehigh of at least a tie for the 1970-71 All-Sports Trophy against the Leopards. It gave the Engineers a 6-5 lead with only a golf matchi remaining. Lehigh, trying for its first undefeated track campaign sincei 1932, has one hurdle left. The Engineers visit Rutgers today (May 11). McCartney set a school and Saucon Valley track record reaching 45 feet, 8 3/4 inches to win the triple jump against West Chester. His leap was 1 3/4 inches longer than the previous Engineer standard set by teammate Orrin Meyers last season. Meyers missed beating his own record by one inch while taking a second against the RsTms. The jump also shattered the six year old Saucon Valley Fields mark of 45 feet, five inches set by Delaware's Bob Wills. Hill set a Metzger Field record in the shot put as he, Jack Rizzo and Neil Tarulli each won a pair of events against rival Lafayette. Hill's heave of 53 feet, three inches was more than a foot longer than the old mark set by Colgate's Mike Stein. Hill also won the discus with a toss of* 141 feet, one inch. Rizzo won the 100 and 220 yard dashes in respective times of 9.9 and 22.2 seconds. Tarulli took the 120 high hurdles in 14.4 and the 440 intermediates in 57.8.
