Coach Gerry Leeman and captain Pete Henning of the Engineer squad will be among the speakers. They will review the season and outline Lehigh's chances in the forthcoming title tournament at Princeton (March 14-15). The " smoker" will begin at 8;30 p.m. Bob Reber is chairman. Cagers Win Two Games In Last Week of Season Bob Fortune established a seasonal rebound record last week as Lehigh closed out its varsity basketball season winning over Rider, 77-68, and Franklin and Marshall, 87-60, before bowing to Lafayette, 68-54. The Engineer freshmen followed the same route, winning 75-63 over Rider and 84-58 over F. & M. before losing to Lafayette, 92-64. Coach Roy Heckman's varsity won seven times against 17 defeats. Coach Bob Kennedy's frosh had a 16-5 mark and a 10-game winning streak which ended in the Little Leopards' gym. Fortune grabbed 13 rebounds in his final contest of the schedule to finish with 293. Bob Lowman set the former Lehigh standard of 286 in the 1966-67 campaign. Lafayette gained its first victory over Lehigh in three years. The host Leopards avenged an 81-59 defeat suffered a week and a half ago at the hands of Lehigh in Grace Hall. The win can be attributed to the solid support Mike Miller, a 6-2 junior, received on offense from teammates Bob Cole and George Lefkowski. Miller led the Leopard attack with 18 points. Lefkowski contributed 15 points and Cole added (Continued on Page 2) Coach's Comment " We won four of our last seven and the Lafayette loss was our first to them in six games, so that's not too bad. Once again assured of a non-losing season, the 24th in a row since 1945, Lehigh wrestlers have their sights set on Pittsburgh Saturday night (March 8) and the annual Eastern Tournament one week later at Princeton. The Engineers (5-4-1) routed visiting Rutgers last weekend, 31-3, before 3,000 spectators. In a freshman preliminary battle Lehigh (2-4-1) ended its frosh schedule demolishing the Scarlet, 28-10. Pittsburgh's varsity, coming fast since mid-season, fought Penn State to a 16-16 draw last Saturday on the Nittany mat. Lehigh-Pitt action begins at 8 p.m. Saturday (March 8) in Grace Hall. Finals of the annual Prep Wrestling Tourney, at 6 p.m., will serve as a preliminary attraction. Rutgers (5-7) was powerless to prevent Lehigh from marching to its 19th straight triumph over the Scarlet and the 22nd in 23 meetings. Coach Gerry Leeman's home squad won every bout except 145 pounds where captain Pete Henning, normally a 130- pounder dropped a 5-2 verdict to Mike Brown. Dave Waters, substituting for Dick Meyer at 123, opened the rout with a 12-0 walkaway at the expense of Rutgers' Al Belding. Meyer, a strong contender for lightweight honors in the Easterns, was given a rest. Dave Icenhower followed with an even more one-sided bout, 15-0 over Steve Gold at 130, and Rutgers forfeited 137 to Jay Leeman when illness sidelined Mike Yacco. Rutgers got on the scoreboard in the next bout, trailing 11-3, but Lehigh took everything else. Tom Muir (152) turned back Bob Scheetz, 2-1, despite an elbow injury to go along with his chronic knee problems, Rich Bacastow (160) downed George Bellino, 6-3, Jack Bentz (167) was an 11-4 victor over Don Brandenburg, Scott Christie (177) defeated Jack Van Doren, 4-1, Mike Harrison (191) flattened Mike Sluzenski in one minute and heavyweight Gary Leinberger ran up a 17-5 score on Paul Milea. Mike Mullin (5-0-2) completed an undefeated freshman year with a fall in the freshman 152-pound scrap. Coach Mike Caruso's charges had Rutgers shut out until dropping 177 and 191 pound bouts on falls. LEHIGH 31, RUTGERS 3 123--Dave Waters, Lehigh, dee.
