Franks, Jr., Commanding General of the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), will present the principal address the joint Army and Air Force commissioning ceremonies on Saturday, May 30 at 12:30 p.m. in Packer Memorial Church. It Speaks For Itself Photo by KEN WHITE Lehigh's Dean of the College of Education Al Moe and graduate student Jeanne Yugar, who says: "I came to Lehigh from Los Angeles to earn my degree in school psychology. I chose Lehigh because of its national reputation and supportive environment both financially and personally." Lehigh will award honorary doctoral degrees to five outstanding individuals in recognition of their lifetime achievements at the University's 124th Commencement exercises on Sunday, May 31 at 2:30 p.m. in Stabler Center. Those to be honored include Cathleen Black, president and CEO of the American Newspaper Publisher Association; Lehigh trustee John Diebold, management consultant and chairman of JD Consulting Group, Inc.; John E. Hearst, a molecular bioscien- tist and professor of chemistry at the University of California; Commencement speaker R.E. "Ted" Turner, chairman of the board and president of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. (TBS); and Baccalaureate speaker Cornel West, professor of religion and director of the African-American Studies program at Princeton University. Black will receive the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters; Diebold, Doctor of Engineering; Hearst, Doctor of Sci- John Diebold Cathleen Black John E. Hearst ence; Turner, Doctor of Laws; West, Doctor of Divinity. Black was Publisher of USA TODAY until assuming her new post at the American Newspaper Publisher Association in 1991. Prior to joining USA TODAY, Black was publisher of New York magazine, and at the time of her appointment in 1979, she was the first woman ever to be publisher of a weekly consumer magazine. Recently, she was appointed by President Bush to the Board of Directors of the Points of Light Foundation. She's a graduate of Trinity College in Washington, D.C. Diebold is an internationally acknowledged leader in the fields of management and technology. He wrote his first book Automation at the age of 26, and originated many of the concepts which are today accepted as basic to the fields of automation and management."As chairman and founder of JD Consulting Group, Inc., he has provided management counsel to corporations, cities, and several foreign governments.
