[Letter] 1884 October 25, New York [to] Captain John [Enepa?] / Charles H. Haswell.
1884-10-25
The letter is written on Charles Haswell, Consulting and Superintending Engineer, letterhead with an image of a ship and Haswell's contact information. See also other letters in the collection by those interested in innovations with steam technology: Dundonald, Ericsson, Fulton, and Watt. Haswell appeals to his friend's expertise on a question which has lately been presented to him regarding specific calculations for water line, beam, and rudder angle. Haswell began his career in the steam engine shop of James P. Allaire, going on to work as a consulting engineer in New York for over 50 years, overseeing the construction of buildings, harbors, and vessels, and acting as a trustee for the New York and Brooklyn Bridge. He also published the popular _Mechanic's and Engineer's Pocket Book_ (1842).
