the dean's list for the fall semester as released by wray h congdon dean of students re veals the names of 152 undergrad uates the list is composed of 57 seniors 43 juniors 27 sophomores and 25 f res wen including 87 en gineering 46 arts and 19 business studetns the undergraduate en rollment from which the list was computed was 2,571 there were 22 men who achiev ed a perfect 4.00 average 9 se outstanding performance friday night the lehigh valley symphony orchestra and the chorus made up of the lehigh glee club and singers from cedar crest moravian and bethlehem receive their applause in the background for a review o the 1952 festival see below festival is smash hit boorish crowd panned by william a latshaw under ordinary conditions no one may leave the town or it will disappear forever but a s danger who loves a resident may stay and evaporate with the rest of the crowd at sunset albright wins the girl of his dreams but at the last minute re see review page 3 vinceitt lopez whose name like his feme has spread from his break with the jazz tradition 30 years ago to his more than suc cessful engagejtjent at the hotel taft will b the no 1 attraction at this spring's houseparty spon sored by the class of 53 . lopez maestro of music will join with george sommer popu lar philadelphia orchestra leader in creating an atmosphere of tropical splendor in conformity with the houseparty theme trop ical holiday every effort has been made to perfect the decorations which will set the mood of ihe week bnd professionally erected and designed the swaying palm trees and elaborate band stand cover ings will supplement other tropi cal decorations george sommer a favorite at many colleges will fill the va cancy creaied vjhen popular bob shebley met a tragic death in an automobile accident two weeks ago the housepa ty dance operated for the first time by an under graduate class departs from the standard starry atmosphere to bring the warmth and color of the tropics a substantial : eduction in price brings the bill to 4.50 social chairman of the various living groups have tho tickets for sale now for information about the houseparty weekend call 6-9193 flagpole sitters • • • program originality choreogra phy was different and novel en hanced by the salvador dalish slides projected on to the front and back screens of the stage set ting the number was one of the finest in the show the musical brigadoon which made up the second part of the program is a delightful tale of two young americans who lost wander into the scottish town brigadoon tommy al bright the lover of the two promptly falls for a sotch lass the only hitch is brigadoon is a miracle town destined to appear one day every hundred years and making it a bit hard to pitch woo b&w cited for campus safety issue two certificates of edi torial excellence have been awarded brown and white for its editorial treatment of the subject of holiday safe driving last se mester judges of the 1951 college newspaper contest on safe driv ing sponsored by the lumber mens mutual casualty company gave b&w honorable mention for its editorial and its photos in the dec 18 1951 issue the winning editorial en titled life rather than death was written by present editor robert j flynn it culminated a semester-long campaign by the paper to remedy 15 campus dan ger spots which were the scene of more than 10 campus collisions the winning photos capiioned from beginning to end were taken by dick toven and pete barba they depicted the cause and result of many auto accidents — the bottle and the tombstone announcement of the editorial awards was made to brown and white editors in a letter from james s kemper chairman of lumbermen's mutual from left to right margie ortwein and pat o'connell perch beside lehigh's much publicized flagpole for a brief rest during their visit last weekend judging from their smiles it may be assumed that they enjoyed the music festival 53 epitome needs editor bus manager any student interested in becoming editor-in-chief or busi ness manager of the 1953 epitome should submit a letter of applica tion to dean charles a seidle chairman of the board of publica tions before friday may 2 this letter should contain peiti nent persor\il data including cu mulative average experience in high school or lehigh publica tions participation in other extra curficular activities at lohigh and reasons for desiring election a student need not have any previous experience on the epi itome to be eligible for election all candidates for the two see epitome pase 7 it's doubtful that the bonny banks and braes of bethlehem will soon again see so many kilt ed lads and lassies romping through heather in such a suc cessful and entertaining perform ance as lehigh witnessed friday and saturday night the fifth consecutive spring music festival featuring an abridged version of the broadway musical brigadoon and mood fantasy music played to capacity crowds both nights displaying home musical talent of a fine cali ber prof william schempf's brass ensemble fanfare and a welsh folk song entitled men of harlech got the performance off to a fast jaunty start immediately sombered by a modern dance type routine the delta includ ing in the suite negro work song spiritual and dance next on the schedule were four waltzes by composer tom waring written especially for the festival the stocking song written by c b campbell acting director of admissions was a de lighfiul ballad reminiscing about giampa an old lehigh man now relegated to a rocking chair and his relations with the opposite sex very well done from this point on the music was channeled along more famil iar pop favorites opening with an excellent rendition of the soothing number dream by the glee club and cliff clefs a unique exotic arrangement of old black magic followed maintaining the excellence of the tuesday april 22 1952 lehigh university brown and white lehigh university
