friday march 14 1952 volume 63 — number 35 fall average drops below spring 1951 lehigh university bethlehem pa nittany lions are favored for easterns conference leaders enthusiastic about student faculty response by john crane another colorful wrestling season reaches ill climax this weekend when the 48th annual eastern intercollegiate wrestling association championships fea ture 16 teams and 128 wrestlers battling for the coveted eiwa crowns in grace hall leading the pack will be perm state the defending champion and heavy favorite to repeat state has dominated the eiwa for the past two years and has 20 straight dual meet victories to its credit thus they are the logical choice to win their 11th eastern title however lehigh army syr acuse and cornell will be trying to make state's bid as difficult as possible and since the points are often split up in this type oi a ournament an upset is not im possible six defending champions are see easterns page 5 see statistics page 6 lehigh men fell from a 2.264 spring average to a 2.10 during the past semester according to the scholastic ranking released by registrar james h wagner the major group change was made by fraternity men who surpassed the all-university figure although their average as compared to last spring was lower leonard hall led all living groups with a 2.763 average pi lambda phi replaced spring lead er tau delta phi at the head of the fraternity list with a 2.559 richards 4b finished third among living groups and first among dormitory sections top among graduating groups was the class of june 52 whose 2.468 beat out the 2.427 of the feb 52 class richards house garnered the highest average in the dormi tory group with a 2.148 the complete scholastic ranking lor last semester is shown above is dr samuel shoemaker rev d w herb chaplain george bean and alvin applegate 53 discussing the aspects of the second conference on religion over the campus radio station as a climax to the convocation present at lehigh than at any school they have visited in recent years dr napier in particular was struck by the high degree of faculty interest and the mature understanding displayed by members of the faculty cooperation and enthusiastic response by all the living groups shoemaker gives insight to power power is the result of the bringing together of god and christ dr samuel m shoemaker pastor of calvary church pitts burgh told his audience at the university chapel service sun day the speaker talking on the problem the person and the pow er defined the problem as god the person as christ special music by the chapel choir under the direction of george l gansz music instructor was included in this service which opened the third day of a five-day session the rev george m bean university chaplain pre sided over the service on tuesday afternoon dr see shoemaker page 3 we:e an integral part of the suc cess of the conference bean con tinued a tremendous impact has been made by this program on he whole campus especially in the fraternities where entire houses have participated in the conference activities bean also stressed the point that this year's conference had see conference bethlehem community center on wednesday rabbi amram prero told the members of the hillel so ciety how judaism can provide ihem with armour against unde sirable trends of society as it is today rabbi prero in conjunction with the second conference on religion spoke on what religion can mean in the lives of young people the speaker national director of the american zionist youth commission deplored undergo court test the first major and signi ficant test of pennsylvania's non disloyalty oath law may come this year after the refusal wed nesday of richardson dilworth to take an oath denying disloyalty dilworth is district attorney of philadelphia and former candi date for governor dilworth said that the oath is an outrageous procedure re sembling methods of the spanish inquisition whose whole purpose see oath page 6 ten delegates from the poli tical science assembly of lehigh are planning to attend the region al conference of the intercollegi ate conference on government at lafayette college tomorrow the purpose of the assembly is to unify the district for the state wide conference which is to be held in harrisburg on april 24 and 25 members of the district will also be faced with the task of formulating policies and deciding upon chairmanships of various committees the members from lehigh who plan to attend this assembly are bruce solomon 53 mike arra 53 dick kradjel 53 bill thomp son 53 peter hoyt 53 dick ash students to have first chance at festival tickets tickets for the 1952 music festival to be held in grace hall april 18 and 19 go on sale mon day march 24 at 8 a.m in drown hall both reserved and unreserv ed seats for friday and saturday night will be available to lehigh students eight days before they go on public sale in bethlehem and allentown ticket prices
