block that lamberton hall has created in the minds of stu dents mai gross 54 asked at a meeting friday night with mem bers of the student committee for the betterment of lamberton hall in the trustee's room of the cafe teria the meeting was the second of its type with lamberton manager m w wood and university treasurer elmer glick represent ing the official lamberton com mittee's viewpoint prices and operating procedure were the topics most discussed but fey concrete developments came out of the meeting bernard grossman 55 a scblh representative commented that the psychological block was in creasing manager wood's vol ume of income and trade records however failed to substantiate grossman's claim town council representa tive william thompson 53 claimed that lamberton hall has been going into the red year af ter year and that the students are not being cheated thompson stated that lamberton's prices when averaged are on a par with all restaurants gross chairman of the better ment committee apologized for issuing his first lamberton report without consulting manager wood he emphasized that because of psychological blocks which lamberton has created in stu dent's minds as a result of a real or imagined lack of proper ser vice one very important seg ment of the university plant is faling to fulfill its main function — that of developing the student see arcadia page 7 see lamberton page 6 as of feb 6 796 lehigh men had pledged to donate blood when the red cross bloodmobile visits grace hall feb 28 and 29 this figure is almost four times the 210 who donated blood last spring according to last wednesday's figures reported by dean charles a seidle 428 fraternity men 291 lormitory residents and 13 town men comprised the 732 students who have turned in pledges six ty four faculty members have also pledged blood chi phi heads the fraternities with 30 pledges handed in while ravo 2 leads the dormitory sec tions with the same number of pledges john seville 52 directed the fraternity campaign for donors he was assisted by representa tives of each fraternity richard glassburg 55 and ralph hamil ton 55 assisted by members of the freshman cabinet directed dormitory solicitation dean seidle pointed out that any additional pledge cards should be turned in at the area see blood page 7 arcadia passed a motion to retain lehigh's membership in the national students association at last wednesday's meeting with president gene howie 52 break ing a 5-5 tie in the vote the motion was intended to ad vise the student body which will itself decide the issue in a refer endum to be held in conjunction with arcadia elections later this month the vote could not have been less decisive with arcadians goldenberg hansen maccabe mcnamara otter and howie voting in favor of the motion koppes land lewis mohr and to we in opposition and carlisle larocci kuss and muskin absent with the issue brewing for sev eral months many of the members had informally prepared 10 sure to have a prominent place in the conversation the finest tribute that can be paid to bud freeman's greatness as a musician is that along with bix beiderbex louis armstrong and a few others he is one of the originators among jazzmen but unlike many of his fellow musi cians of that period in jazz bud is still a leader in ever-changing musical tastes born in chicago most of his early musical background was in that town where he played with all the top names in the field bix beiderbex jelly roll morton benny goodman tommy dorsey and many others bud is remem bered for his town hall and car negie hall concerts the latter with the late and great fats pro — thomas b maccabe jr the united states national student association came official ly into existence following the constitutional convention held in august 1947 at the university of wisconsin recognizing the ever present need for a representative intercollegiate student organiza tion the more than 750 represen tatives of over 1,000,000 students in 351 american colleges and uni versities established the nsa it was further realized that such an organization would form an im pregnable barrier against the communistically controlled inter national union of students the work of nsa falls into four commissions i student life educa see pro page 6 con — tom mohr educational affairs of nsa goes for things in a big way it hold seats on unesco united nations educational so cial and cultural organization wssf world student service fund and the american council on education one of its purposes is to influence legislation in the national and state capitols to pro mote its policies it also tries to influence collegiate policies in colleges and universities through out america what is the purpose of all this effort written following a dec 14 1951 story in this newspaper headlined cut privileges extended to freshmen sophs feeling that an erroneous impression must have been creat ed by the headline dean cong don amplified the new position of lehigh men 1 pledge 796 pints of blood shown left to right above at a meeting of the lamberton hall committee friday are m w wood lamberton manager mai gross scblh chairman and elmer click university treasurer see absences page 8 the university toward indiscri minate cutting the regulations became effective this semester ig norance of them congdon wrote will not excuse a student from the provisions contained therein attention was called by the dean to article 1 of the new regu lations regular attendance at all classes and regularly scheduled academic exeicises is expected of all students it is in this clause that the uni versity states its feeling toward cutting when a student does not at j tend classes regularly for any rea son he is liable to be reported for negligence of his academic re sponsibilities if he is reported a second time in the same course unless he can present adequate and satisfactory reasons for his absences he will dropped
