universal military training and service act amends the selective service act in that it stipulates that persons entering the armed forces prior to their 26th birthday shall be re quired to serve in the armed for ces for a period of eight years the amendment further stipulates that rotc students selected for deferment will agree in writing to accept a commission if tendered and to serve not less than two years on active duty and re main a member of the regular or reserve component of the army for six years persons previously were re quired to serve not less than two years on active duty and remain a member of the regular or re serve component only three years accordingly a memorandum see rotc page 6 accident rise causes major problem at lu two more automobile accidents involving lehigh students on wednesday have brought the to tal of reported accidents on the lehigh campus up to seven since september the first occurred off campus a little before 1 p.m when an auto mobile carrying two students went out of control and crashed into a service pole on e susque hanna st discharged after dispen sary treatment at sacred heart hospital allentown were john e sweeney c.e 53 of woodbury n.j and joseph grigaitis m.e 54 of tamaqua sweeney received superficial cuts on the face and nose and grigaitis a bruised left eye and lacerated lip grigatis driver of the car told bethlehem police that he skidded on the wet trol ley tracks the front of the car was badly dmaaged from the collision that knocked down several of the wires from the pole the other accident occur red at 1:40 p.m and was also the result of a skid on a wet roadway see crash page 8 safety on the lehigh campus with an increase in the number of automobiles maneuvering it has become a major headache for stu dents talent this week singers dancers artists and photogra phers will be signed up for try outs during the next few weeks male singing leads both tenor and baritone for bri gadoon the main theme of the
