see test page 7 lehigh university alumni fund officials have decided that the cost of repairing taylor hall — 150,000 — will be the objective of the 1951-52 alumni fund drive paul franz assistant to the presi dent has announced officials aware of the need for improvements in taylor dormi tory have taken this step in the belief that while the university can take care of educational needs the alumni and friends of the university will be asked to take care of major problems of a capital nature in undertaking the drive for 150,000 the alumni fund will allow the university to utilize its resources to raise the salaries of deserving in structors at a saving to the university budget improvements to the dormitory include new plumbing fixtures 28 toilets 58 lavatories 27 show ers and 9 drinking fountains new heating system including new lehigh university once again will be a testing center for the selective service college quali fication tests to be given on dec 13 f 1951 and april 24 1952 it was announced by f.ed g armstrong of the university counseling and testing services due to the shrinking supply of manpower students who are de ferred because of reasons such as membership in reserves or having dependents might find it neces sary to have a defeiment as a stu supply and return line a steam tunnel required to service the building to extend from drown hall to taylor hall radiation will be of the convec tor type wall supported for which 217 radiators are required new electric system including 240 new lighting fixtures asphalt tile flooring will be laid in all the toilet rooms and in the two new lounges and recrea tion rooms estimated costs are as fol lows each toilet room and shower room 5,000 each lounge 1,000 repairs and remodeling suites 750 rec reation rooms 500 repair to individual rooms 250 some alumni who formerly lived in taylor hall may wish io give their gifts for remodeling the room they used if this is the case a marker will be placed in the room naming the donor the drive for an improved tay lor hall began last spring after a student wrote a letter to the edi tor of the brown and white call ing attention to the need for re pairs after studying the situation a committee of students petitioned see taylor page 3 met e's gel 12,750 gift to start fund a model security council of the united nations will be held at lehigh university on nov 9 and 10 according to dr leon w god jhall professor and head of le high's department of international relations delegates from 10 other colleges and universities are ex pected to attend the two day pennsylvania intercollegiate con ference basis for discussion will be the spring 1950 proceedings of the united nations secur ity council and the program will open at 3 o'clock friday afternoon with a discussion of the kashmir question members of the lehigh delega tion who will take an active part in this portion of the program are lawrence e collins arts 52 donald patterson arts 52 who will also serve as general chair man of the conference and don ald d mac bean arts 53 collins will serve as chairman of the fri day afternoon discussion the eleven colleges and uni versities participating
