brown and white volume 63 number 4 tuesday october 9 1951 bethlehem pa list dorms for dates over hp second draft test series prepared v.w milch fund increased 500 mrs jeannette milch the mother of lehigh graduate victor warren milch has added five hundred dollars to a twenty five hundred dollar fund established in her son's memory milch a promising chemical engineer received his ms at le high in 1946 four years later when he was stricken with polio see fund page 8 joe meyer's backward momentum was just enough to tally lehigh's lone score against bucknell although bucknell's ma son shoved moyer out of the end zone before his feet touched the referee ruled power's pass a score a second series of selective ser vice college qualification tests will begin dec 13 according to u.s commissioner of education earl j mcgrath criteria for student defer ment remains unchanged either a score of 70 on the test or satisfactory standing in one's class upper half of the freshman class upper two thirds of the sophomore class and upper three-fourths of the junior class in addition to the dec 13 test another exam will be given april 24 1952 both tests will be admin istered at 1000 test centers in the united states and its territories applicaion blanks are now avail able at all draft boards registrants who have previous ly taken the test are not eligible to take it again however stu dents whose college deferments and academic year end jan 1 1952 are urged to apply for the dec 13 test see tests page 6 bisons rout lu 47-7 boyle hurt dorm rooms will again be avail able to all those students desirous of quartering their dates on cam pus during houseparty george edelslein chairman of the idc houseparty housing committee has announced that drinker sec tions 4 3a 38 richards sections 4a 48 3a 38 and dravo sections a 2 and c 2 will be open for this purpose students living within the designated sections must ap ply for rooms oct 8-10 those living in the above dorms must apply oct 11-13 and all others intending to have their dates stay in the dorms must apply oct 15-20 the re spective section presidents are in charge of accepting ap plications there will be a charge of 1.50 for the chaperone and all stu dents must supply their own lin en for their dates it is suggested that men whose dates will stay in the dorms should see the students who normally occupy the rooms so that no property rights will be infringed upon all section petitions for parties during the oct 26 weekend were to be submitted last saturday approximately 275 beds are be ing made available for house party dates and if necessary more will be obtained lehigh men expect to escort 800 to 900 dates to grace hall friday oct 26 where there will be danc ing to the music of johnny long and buddy williams the two floors of the building will be de corated in an october twilight theme founder's day talk by killian principal speaker at this year's observance of founder's day when 115 students will receive degrees will be dr james r kil lian president of the massachu setts institute of technology an nounced president martin d whitaker killian will receive the honorary degree of doctor of laws during the ceremony eighty students will receive baccalaureate degrees and 35 graduate students will be given advanced degrees at the exercises to be held sun day oct 14 in packer me morial chapel at 2:30 p.m dr killian author of various articles on engineering edu cation and administration is a graduate of trinity college and mit upon graduation from college in 1926 killian served as editor of technology review a post he held until 1939 when he was ap pointed assistant to the president see killian page 7 af names depot for major cheli lehigh's world war ii ace major ralph a cheli was hon ored by the u.s air force recent ly when a specialized depot in maywood calif was given his name cheli winner of the con gressional medal of honor left le high as a junior in 1940 to enter the air force lehigh's arnold air society had earlier honored cheli by naming the squadron in his honor see cheli page 3 music office has series tickets for phila orchestra tickets for the philadelphia or chestra programs will again be made available to lehigh stu dents the music department an nounces students may attend the four concerts in the series by ob taining tickets in the music office the programs by the philadel phia orchestra eugene ormandy conducting will be given on wednesday nov 14 monday dec 10 monday feb 11 and wednesday april 2 a chartered bus will leave grace hall at 5:30 pan after the show they put on at taylor stadium saturday the bisons featuring a high-powered ground attack rolled over lehigh's eleven 47-7 to extend their win ning streak to seven straight bucknell was unstoppable on the ground with brad myers and burt talmage a pair of speedy halfbacks leading the way with 265 yards and scoring four touch downs bison runners picked up 363 yards at an average of over five yards per try these two and fullback bob albert kept hitting the lehigh line all afternoon driving their way for several yards whenever a hole wasn't opened up see bison page 5 placement men give pointers to seniors who want interviews plans set for chest collection in anticipation of the campus chest campaign which begins next week a canvassers meeting will be held thursday from 7 to 7:45 p.m in room 466 packard lab chaplain george m bean will speak to the group and mark s kaufmann bus 53 director of publicity and education for the chest will explain the canvassing rrocedure one canvasser from each dormitory section fraternity and town group has been chosen and all students will be contacted from monday to saturday a ticket to the charity ball nov 3 will be given to each student who pledges to give three dollars or more lehigh's fabulous band forms an umbrella at half time with bucknell ahead 14-0 by game's end they needed more than symbolic umbrellas to ward off the moravec uni versity news editor was the see newspaper page 7 placement bureau functions and procedures for 1951-52 were out lined in two recent addresses by placement director everett a teal and assistant director frank a palevicz pointing out to the students that it is not the job of their office to see to it that each student gets a position upon graduation palevicz said their function is to assist stu dents in meeting company representatives and in organ izing their efforts to get a job while it is the placement bur eau's job to aid the student in getting a position there are cer tain responsibilities which the student himself must shoulder palevicz said foremost is keep ing abreast of what is going on in the placement office what com panies are visiting the campus and when the student must see to it that when he has made an appointment he keeps it appear ing properly dressed and pre pared registration in the placement office is necessary before a man
