knowing what io do in the event of a fire is one thing with which everyone should be familiar said fire chief john schweder in an inter view recently most people he said may think they know what to do however i feel safe in predicting that only about five per c§nt know enough about these matters to do a safe and sensible job speaking informally from be hind his desk at the victory fire station in fillmore st chief schweder pointed out that fires have been classified in three categories a b and c each be ing combatted differently in a class a fire he ex plained wood paper or similar matter the best thing we have found for small fires which are confined to a limit ed area is a soda and acid extinguisher in the larger fires the wall hoses must be used explaining a class a fire schweder told the brown and white reporter that in many in stances people have used the wrong extinguisher only to make see fire page 2 many types of music will be included in the program of the 1951 lehigh music festival april 13 and 14 in grace hall one of the high lights of the production will be down in the valley a broadway production by kurt weill known as an american folk opera down in the valley has been performed by several hun dred diffeffenl musical organ izations since its premiere at in diana university in 1948 the de troit opera company and the port land civic theater have presented the work and performances have taken place in london hawaii zurich tel aviv and sweden kurt weill's most recent work is lost in the stars done in col laboration with maxwell ander son some of the other broadway successes for which weill wrote the music are lady in the dark juniors in service to receive b&w juniors who have left school this year for service with the armed forces will receive weekly copies of brown and white ac cording to web dann junior class president in addition dann hopes to publish a periodic newsletter to keep juniors informed of class ac tivities so far the class president has contacted the parenls of 20 classmates to get their latest service address dann expects to contact anoth er 15 or to com plete jm|kv class list - guy fraser harrison part of the scl series guy fraser harrison english born conductor will direct the orchestra harrison started his musical career at the age of eight when he became a member of the christ cathedral choir in oxford before assuming his post as con ductor of the rochester orchestra he organized and conducted the philippines orchestra because of the start of spring vacation on the following day the program beginning at 3:45 p.m according to a veterans administration re minder issued by edward s malesky adviser on veterans affairs and selective service this notice further states that any veteran planning to enroll in a new course of study should write to his local v.a office for a ruling on his case immediately it also emphasizes that working toward a higher degree in the same field or changing one's field although working for the same degree constitutes a new course of study those discharged from service aiter july 25 1947 are not affect ed by the july 25 deadline they have a maximum of four years from the date of discharge to en roll in a new course veterans who complete one program in a field and wish to progress to the next may do so if they apply to the v.a before completing their present course and begin their new course at the first regular session to which they are admitted courses may be continued after interruption only if the v.a decides that the inter ruption was beyond the con trol of the for 8 to morrow evening a record entry list of 146 con testants from 48 colleges will compete for the crown won last year by lowa state teacher's col lege cedar falls lowa two men 123 pounder anthony gizoni waynesburg college and 147 pounder keith young of lowa state teachers college are de fending champions there will also be champions of eiwa and big ten conference who earned their titles recently seeking new laurels against the champions of the big seven mountain states conference and pacific coast conference winners of the eastern intercollegiates at perm state college who will be com peting are mike filipos 123 lbs george feuerbach 130 lbs both from lehigh don rochester orchestra to give matinee concert to continue in advanced studies whenever accepted by a medical school
