festival rehearsal to start combined glee club rehearsals for the 1951 lehigh music festi val to be held in grace hall april 13 and 14 begin tomorrow when the lehigh glee club travels to beaver college in jenkintown pa this is the first of several joint rehearsals scheduled for the coming weeks meanwhile the soloists for the see festival page 3 bean calis religious conclave successful several students commented that the conference particularly through the living group bull ses sions had stimulated thinking more than any other agent had done since they have been at le high by creating more thought about the how and why of life and the destiny of man the con ference jarred people from their lethargic unthinking acceptance of life and forced them to seek its meaning conference leaders claimed that the conclave confronted more people on a deeper level than any such problem they have dealt with in the past they found lehigh more alive to the real issues of life than many other see bean page 2 lehigh university's first con ference on religion was success ful in a dramatic way comment ed university chaplain george m bean as the conclave ended wednesday night rev bean stated that the drama lay in the fact that a tremendous number of students for the first time in their lives were confronted with a new dimension which they never before knew existed students and faculty alike have been rocked back on their heels continued the chaplain and they have been forced to ponder and sweat out some of the ulti mate questions of human life by concentrating on quality rather than on quan tity and intensity rather than mass the conference created a real probing into questions a probing which mr bean be lieves produced a far reach ing and hoped-for lasting stimulant of the mind one-fourth to one-third of the present senior class has accepted positions with industry accord ing to frank v palevicz assistant director of the placement bureau thus far this year he estimated that 115 senors have been aided in securing employment by the bureau the trend still favors en gineers with an abnormally large demand for m.e.'s 115 june grads secure positions the second night of a two-day contemporary music festival will be held in broughal junior high school at 8 tonight by the world famous walden string quartet of the university of illinois and a chamber orchestra of lehigh val ley musicians the first concert was last night music of five outstanding con temporary composers will be fea tured at the a n cleaver memo walden string quartet plays in festival tonight rial fund concert which will be open to the public at no admis ! sion charge tonight the chamber or chestra will be heard present ing works featuring the wal den quartet as soloists the program will include con certo grosso for strings and piano by ernest bloch adagio for strings by sam uel barber concerto for string quartet and string or chestra alvin etler quiet city by aaron copland and concerto grosso for string quartet and chamber orches tra by burrill phillips guest soloist tonight will be marjorie weidner of bethlehem the quartet has played over 100 new works in public and on the air many of them in world premiers and in 1949 made a seven-week concert tour through germany sponsored by the civil affairs division of the department of the army town council lists goals for spring semester town council listed ihe follow ing goals for this semester at its recent meeting better unity among all town men more active participation in meetings and so cial events more participation in town council sports and a more active interest in activities of town council men on the campus an advisory committee was set up consisting of henry enright bus 51 david leith arts 53 bill farkas arts 53 bruce solomon arts 53 and robert mielich arts 53 preston parr assistant to the di rector of the institute of research was asked to serve as faculty ad viser he received his foundries co one of the nation's most modern foundries during the latter part of march blood drive quota met brown and white during the closing hours of operations plasma drinker iv under the leadership of morris r ronemus m.e 51 turned over 26 pledge cards to fulfill lehigh's quota of 210 applicants for the march 16 visit of the bloodmobile sam harleman director proud ly announced the end of a suc cessful campaign tuesday after noon when he turned over the re maining cards to the red cross he also pointed out that within the next few days all donors should receive their appointment cards he added that although the campaign ended with the signing up of the students from drinker a number of cards kept coming in if stu dents continue to return cards it may necessitate an other visit of the bloodmo bile he said such a visit of mobile unit would come sometime in may if officials feel thai another quota can be met wth reference to appointments harleman explained that mrs charles seidle has spent consid erable time in arranging times for students and faculty so that their donating would not interfere with class work as a result he said we have tried to make every thing
