the univer sity during the day will be held at 7 p.m friday feb 9 in the re gistrar's office all saturday class es are held in the mornings even ing sessions are held from 7 to 9:30 p.m in the field of business courses will be offered in ac counting readings in ac counting readings in eco nomic statistics in addition to the course in investments a number of courses in history government and internation al relations will be offered numerous english courses school administration elementary education counseling and a course in elementary painting will also be offered again includ ed and in addition to the child psychology course there will be a course in social problems offered additional information con cerning the program may be se cured by contacting prof harold p thomas director of the adult education program drinker iii-b to receive phi eta sigma award neo frosh will begin sat feb 3 freshmen and transfer students entering lehigh in february will be conducted through a con densed orientation program for which a calendar of appointments was announced recently by john d leith associate dean of stu dents the program will open on sat urday feb 3 with the foreign language placement examination to be held in the counseling cen ter and which is required of many students in the college of aris and science and the college of busi ness administration starting with the dean's meeting at 8:10 a.m in pack ard laboratory auditorium four meetings are scheduled for monday morning feb 5 including the registrar's meeting at 9 a.m and the health service meeting at 9:30 a.m in packard labora tory auditorium at 10:30 aan pre-registration college con ferences will be held as fol lows college of arts and sci ence in dean more's office coppee hall college of busi ness administration room 107 chrisimas-saucon hall see frosh page 8 urging recognition of commun ist china among ether resolu tions the student christian asso ciation movement met over the christmas holidays at miami uni versity oxford ohio thirteen hundred students xep resenting 48 states and 24 foreign countries passed a number of such resolutions pat prest bus 52 was representative of the jan 29 to 31 originally scheduled to close jan 27 for a befween-semesters vacation lamberton hall will be open for breakfast and lunch jan 29 30 and 31 arrangements for the extension were made with manager hal stubbs by the university's lam berton hall committee composed of members of idc and arcadia coffee milk and buns will be on the menu for breakfast served from 7 to 9 a.m offer ed for lunch will be soup sandwiches coffee and ice cream no supper will be served thomas turner lisled as good after auto crash thomas turner m.e 52 is list ed as good by easton hospital following an accident saturday afternoon in which his car skid ded on the ice and crashed turner was on his way home to easton and was tra velling along alternate route 22 when the mishap occurred he was thrown out of the car as it skidded and was taken to the hospital by ambulance according io hospital authori ties turner is suffering from lac erations of the face and contu sions and abrasions of the body and legs he does not have any fractures petitions due february 13 arcadia nomination petitions will be due at the arcadia of fice by feb 13 this is contrary to a recent statement in the brown and white which now 9 million dollars gifts and bequests amounting io 827,214 were received by the university during 1950 according to john i kirkpatrick treasurer the lehigh progress fund ac counted for 222,294 of the total while 45,032 was added through in announcing the gifts to the gifts to the lehigh alumni fund university kirkpatrigk pointed two concurrent announcements were made recently by major newman of the air science and tactics department to the effect that juniors in the advanced r.o.t.c will not go to summer camp and that the installation of a radio communications unit has been completed concerning the deferment of summer camp no reason was given for this change in plans and no substitute if there will be any was an nounced a portion from the text of the telegram received by the department from the ist air force headuarters is that the 1951 summer camps will be students ask registrar for deferment aid students who receive draft no tices and wish to apply for defer ments through the university should contact the registrar's of fice so that a letter requesting de ferment can be sent to their boards in filling out a form for this purpose students may give either their home address or their school address it is also important that he check to see if his board requires class average or not since some boards are defering only up per half students requests for deferment for the remain der of the school year are permitted upon receiving the complete forms the office of the registrar will send a letter containing all necessary information to the local draft endowment for general operations of the uni second largest bequest was versity 104,875 from the estate of jacob b krause of quakertown this has been established as the krause scholarship fund for as sistance of indigent students in the college of arts and science as directed by the late krause contributions from members of the starkey family to the william paul and gertrude c starkey foundation to promote christian ity totaled 50,581 during the last year this fund is being used to finance the new altar and organ in packer memorial church on the campus work already has begun on these improvements as well as the redecorating and re lighting of this building on the campus the endowment fund was increased by contributions from the estates of the found er of the university and the widow of a former lehigh university president from the estate of asa packer founder of the university lehigh received 12,021 last year from the estate of mrs alida r richards widow of the late
