inter fraternity council for this college year was held in drown hall on tuesday night at 7:30 o'clock the meeting was called by president e h coxe 23 the roll showed that all members were present and af ter the old business carried over from last year had been attended to topics relating to the present rushing season were given full at tention it was noted by mr coxe that quite a few fraternities had been negligent in the posting of the names of new men living in their houses president coxe urged that the chapters correct this as prompt attention to this matter is essential the civil campbell 25 the elections will be held soon football rivals in exciting tilts sophomores mete out punishment lehigh's seven opponents all engage in interesting encoun ters far and near tomorrow three erring freshnien will don bizarre attire for vj*ri©u infractions of regulations team leaders chosen maroon plays richmond on saturday afternoon on the upper field the soccer team fires the opening gun of a long season one of the hardest schedules in the history of the sport faces the team this year and from to-morrow un til the sixteenth of december they will be hard at work saturday's game is in reality a practice con test against hokendauqua the game which is scheduled for 1:30 p m was arranged so that the team will have some experience in team play before running up against the strong toronto eleven this canadian aggregation which plays here on october 5 is touring the united states and playing the lead ing college teams of the east soc cer is a very popular sport across the border and the canadians are known to have some excellent teams the record of the touring toronto team will be watched with interest continued on page three lehigh is again entered in the middle atlantic states soccer league and nopes this year to gain tnh championship which they so nearly had last season swarth more haverford univ of penna and lafayette are the other com petitors the line-up for to-mor row's game has not yet been defi nitely settled but that given below will be the probable choice of the coach he is anxious to make a number of substitutions so that nearly everyone may have a chance to get in the play and for this rea telephone numbers for living groups the new athletic rules announced on september 23rd as adopted by harvard yale and princeton are of extreme interest to lehigh men as they follow in so many particu lars the regulations under which lehigh has been working for a year past they show a sane attempt to solve the evils that have crept into and have been threatening the very life of college sport especially that king of sports — football to show the points of similarity let us consider these rules promul gated by these three universities and compare them with the rules of the executive committee on ath letics of lehigh's alumni body which rules are being carried out with the co-operation of the faculty and trustees first — financklassislan.ee the rules just announced require that the sources of revenue of ev ery athlete shall be known to the joint committee of the three uni versities and unless the sources of this support and the motives gov erning the giving of financial aid are approved the athlete is ineligi ble for the varsity teams in other words there must be publicity of sources and motives thus preclud ing the possibility of men receiving financial aid purely as a return for athletic ability at lehigh we have the same pub licity of sources and motives only wego a step further not only the executive committee but the ad formidable colgate machine coach ed by dick harlow late of perm state meets clarkson college in what appears to be a one-sided con test colgate's line-up this year is considerably bolstered by the ad dition of several of coach hugo bezdek's wandering nittany stars lebanon valley with springfield college are scheduled to meet the army cadets in the season's only double bill the big maroon team from football season will be officially ushered in on saturday af ternoon at three o'clock on taylor field when lehigh meets gettys burg in what augurs to be a clash of fairly evenly-matched teams the gettysburg clan are fortu nate this year in having practically a whole veteran team it will be remembered that the soldiers last year held the university of penn sylvania 7 to 0 and were defeated by muhlenberg 17 to 13 added to the fact that a veteran team will face baldwin's charges comes the announcement that harry rote has matriculated in the senior class at gettysburg and although barred from playing on account of the four-year rule has been made an assistant coach with the backfield under his tutelage this means that the soldiers will come to tay lor field with a knowledge of the lehigh system although a new sys tem of coaching has been instituted by coach baldwin this year rote while at lehigh was one of the best quarterbacks ever pro duced at the brown and white ins titution while besides this he is a baseball player of mark and cap tained the nine last year gettys burg is holding the services of rote high and expects to have one of the best set of backfield players that has been turned out in years the half back berths are filled by captain smith and ex-captain bream and the quarter and fullback positions are capably taken care of by two new men of exceptional ability mench and gailbreith in that rote has been given charge of the backfield head coach bill wood is devoting all his time to the line material imanuel who last year was an all-state end will cover a wing position at tackle is jones of mount carmel high school where he played a plucky game and was mentioned as one of the best scholastic tackles in the state he was last year a freshman at lehigh a
