a beauty contest is being spon sored by the campus chest com mittee in connection with its an nual charity drive to qualify your girl for the queen of the charity ball one clear snapshot of her must be submitted to the arcadia office before 4 p.m next tuesday the picture must he accompan ied by the girl's name and home town her sponsor's name and campus address and a 25 dona tion to the campus chest fund the queen will be elec ied by student vote each vote will cost five cents the proceeds of which will go to ihe campus chest fund and there will be no limit placed on the number of votes which an individual may purchase for any one contestant starting on thursday morning oct 12 there will be a booth in front of the library from 9 a.m to noon and from 1 p.m to 4 p.m daily until the following saturday noon at which will be displayed ihe pictures of the entrants votes may be purchased at this booth the five girls with the highest number of votes will be selected as final isis from this group the queen of the charity ball will be selected by student vote at the ball a prize will be awarded to the winner at the dance in or ier io qualify for queen the giil must be present at the dance votes will be accepted until he hour of 10:30 p.m at the ball then the final number of votes for each girl will be counted and the five finalists selected at 11:30 p.m the people present at the oustees dean congdon ruled last week that the eight upperclassmen expelled from the residence halls system might return to the dorms and live in the tempos for the rest of the semester the eight men were ousted earlier in the week for bad citizenship in the residence halls and disobedience of university regulations see related editorial on page six prior to the dean's decision the eight upperclassmen — five sopho mores one junior and two seniors — had left their home section drinker 111-b and had found rooms elsewhere six were living in the northeast section of the city one on the south side and the eighth was quartered tempor arily in tempo ii while seeking a room in the city only two upperclassmen are left in drinker 111-b and the fresh men have elected a new section government bethlehem penna kenton gillespie slated for h'party tuesday october 3 1950 dance confab volume 61 — number 3 walters speaks sunday with houseparty less than a month away and many students already looking around for dates tuxedos and friends with cars the senior class executive com mittee is well under way with plans for the dance to be held friday oct 27 in grace hall stan kenton and matt gillespie will provide continuous music on the two floors of grace hall and the feature of the evening will be the selecting of the court from which miss lehigh 1950 will be chosen a midnight manhattan theme will be featured to harmon ize with formality of dress re quired for the occasion dancing time will be from 9:30 p.m to 2 a.m a half hour members of the senior class executive committee discuss plans for the fall houseparty dance shown are bill ciaravino ed halberg al bryniarski and lou bevier alpha sigs cop award for highest us average more than previously tickets will cost 4.95 stan kenton who acquired hi fame by introducing progressive jazz is touring the country now with a jaz band designed strictly for concerts and a dance band with which he specializes in col lege dances he is also being fea tured at housepai ties at lafayette and delaware this fall matt gillespie is better known at lehigh than any other band leader his smooth music has al ways been alpha sig house an oil painting titled af terglow in scotland painted by duncan mcnair a con temporary scottish painter is the token which will be pre pan of nearly three months dura tion with the title of visiting ex pert in university administration dr walters the only american university president to fill this mission lectured and counseled widely throughout japan at con ferences of japanese presidents and other administrators in the field of higher education since 1930 he has served as a college inspector for the association of american uni versities and has traveled as much as 8,000 miles in one year in his investigations he is an associate editor of school and society leading weekly educational maga zine dr walters received a bachelor of arts degree from lehigh uni versity in faculty advisor to the fraternity will talk on the chapter's past his tory dr raymond walters president of the university of cincinnati will deliver the commencement address here at the 72nd annual founder s day exercises at 2 p.m sunday afternoon in packer mem orial church president mattin d whitaker has announced bacca laureaie degrees will go to 48 se iors who completed their work this summer a like number of ad vanced degrees will be presented to the students of the graduate school a native of bethlehem dr walters is an internationally re cognized authority on college and university administration he is the holder of eight honorary de grees and has been president of the university of cincinnati since 1932 he served as dean of swarthmore college before the cincinnati appointment an annual statistical analy sis of american college and university developments pre pared by dr walters is the standard in the field and has won him the name of statisti cian laureate of higher edu cation the american council on edu cation in july 1946 named dr walters chaiiman of its important liaison committee on ihe relation ihps of higher education jo the iederal government composed of nationally prominent college and university executives at the present time he is playing a prominent role in the efforts to make most effective higher edu cation's role in serving the gov ernment
