nounced e robins morgan head of the bureau morgan asks all seniors who have not secured jobs to see him and talk over their situa tions before they leave school reverberations of dormitory life were evident recently on mont clair avenue as several town group freshmen decided to bright en their arid lives with a bit of water - throwing unfortunately one of their victims was the re nowned clifford d slug root arts 40 one calm evening these dare devils who had no wholesome homework with which to keep oc cupied their little minds worked up a cute scheme to dump two 2 waste-paper basketsfull of water on everybody and anybody sap enough to walk into their rooming house the first victim was your cor respondent who was soaked to the skin but with no loss except the press in his pants then mr root came whistling down from the lib rary with his 42 page term paper under his arm as he mounted the first step he was caught in a sheet of water that seemed like a cloud burst mr root is an arts man sacri ficing dignity for action he let forth a stream of unprintable language and broke the intercol legiate record for the third-story upstairs dash his shoes squish ing as he ran hot with rage he burst into the freshmen den of iniquity and challenged one of the pranksters who was hiding behind the door this fearless specimen of man hood — his cronies call him all american — acepted the challenge in order to keep up his repuation it wasn't long before he was lean ing against the wall with a beaut of a shiner hung on his left eye for the past few days all american and his pals have been learning to take dictation in a valiant attempt to help compose another 42 pages of immortal prose by tom c mekeel prof robert m smith head of the department of english had a very pleasant surprise last monday morning as he was opening his morning mail out of one of the envelopes fell a check for 30 dol lars made out to him by the west inghouse corporation since prof smith had no connection whatever with the westinghouse corpora tion he was very puzzled indeed two other sheets of paper in the envelope both letters gave him his explanation it seems that westinghouse has an exhibit of the new york world's fair of which it is very proud so proud in fact that it hands out a lot of money just to hear itself praised out of every thousand people who enter the ex hibit five are chosen at random and herded into a little room one of those elected on may 11 was theodore ehrsam an english in structor at lehigh from 1932 to 1936 apple-polishing mr ehrsam was placed before a typewriter and instructed to write a letter home describing the exhibit perhaps mr ehrsam still considers lehigh his home anyway he wrote his letter of praise to prof smith and therein lies the story mr ehrsam's ex perience as an english teacher en abled him to use all sorts of clever and glowing adjectives to sing the praises of westinghouse and he was awarded 30 dollars for having written the best letter of the five westinghouse however wasn't satisfied with the letter-writing it went to all the trouble of mail ing the letter with one of explan ation including another 30 dollar check for the addressee thus it was that prof smith by merely sitting at his desk open ing a letter removing endorsing and cashing a check earned him self the tidy sum of 30 dollars vol xlvi no 54 selected by evident recently on mont clair avenue as several town group freshmen decided to bright en their arid lives with a bit of water - throwing unfortunately one of their victims was the re nowned clifford d slug root arts 40 one calm evening these dare devils who had no wholesome homework with which to keep oc cupied their little minds worked up a cute scheme to dump two 2 waste-paper basketsfull of water on everybody and anybody sap enough to walk into their rooming house the first victim was your cor respondent who was soaked to the skin but with no loss except the press in his pants then mr root came whistling down from the lib rary with his 42 page term paper under his arm as he mounted the first step he was caught in a sheet of water that seemed like a cloud burst mr root is an arts man sacri ficing dignity for action he let forth a stream of unprintable language and broke the intercol legiate record for the third-story upstairs dash his shoes squish ing as he ran hot with rage he burst into the freshmen den of iniquity and challenged one of the pranksters who was hiding behind the door this fearless specimen of man hood — his cronies call him all american — acepted the challenge in order to keep up his repuation it wasn't long before he was lean ing against the wall with a beaut of a shiner hung on his left eye for the past few days all american and his pals have been learning to take dictation in a valiant attempt to help compose another 42 pages of immortal prose by tom c mekeel prof robert m smith head of the department of english had a very pleasant surprise last monday morning as he was opening his morning mail out of one of the envelopes fell a check for 30 dol lars made out to him by the west inghouse corporation since prof smith had no connection whatever with the westinghouse corpora tion he was very puzzled indeed two other sheets of paper in the envelope both letters gave him his explanation it seems that westinghouse has an exhibit of the new york world's fair of which it is very proud so proud in fact that it hands out a lot of money just to hear itself praised out of every thousand people who enter the ex hibit five are chosen at random and herded into a little room one of those elected on may 11 was theodore ehrsam an english in structor at lehigh from 1932 to 1936 apple-polishing mr ehrsam was placed before a typewriter and instructed to write a letter home describing the exhibit perhaps mr ehrsam still considers lehigh his home anyway he wrote his letter of praise to prof smith and therein lies the story mr ehrsam's ex perience as an english teacher en abled him to use all sorts of clever and glowing adjectives to sing the praises of westinghouse and he was awarded 30 dollars for having written the best letter of the five westinghouse however wasn't satisfied with the letter-writing it went to all the trouble of mail ing the letter with one of explan ation including another 30 dollar check for the addressee thus it was that prof smith by merely sitting at his desk open ing a letter removing endorsing and cashing a check earned him self the tidy sum of 30 dollars vol xlvi no 54 selected by
